Hi Gents,

Pictured below is a pistol that I recently acquired here in Southern Ontario. According to the books, it was shipped to Springfield Armory in April, 1918 and appears to have been inspected by John M. Gilbert.

Based on its age, I'd say it's in decent enough shape but there is some slight flaking on the left side of the slide - which I believe may have been caused by prolonged storage in a holster.

As a disclaimer I'll note that this was my first time photographing one of these WWI era brush blued 1911s. It can prove to be pretty challenging in the sense that too much light simply makes them look shiny while not enough light makes them look duller than they really are. I think it will be an ongoing learning experience.

Comments and questions are welcome!

Thank you for the kind words gents, and I appreciate the photo tip Steve!

Nice shape for a near century old gun. Will it show up on E.E. any time soon?;)

This one is going to be added to the collection long term, but if I did decide to part with it, a couple close friends would get first right of refusal before it ended up in the EE. :p

Very nice piece! I have been wanting to add a WWI 1911 to my collection, but have yet to find one in such great condition. Excellent pics.
