Hello,

I have a tri set of unissued Canadian WWI medals that the Canadian Government gave out post war to veterans and families of veterans who wrote to the government and provided proof of ability to obtain these medals. They are brand new in a small display case and are beautiful. They are the 1914-15 Volunteer Medal, the Victory Medal and the Service Medal for His Majesty's Canadian Forces.

I was wondering how much these are worth, they are not reproductions per-say as the Government was the original issuer of these.

Not as much as you might think. There were several hundred thousand issued, so there are a lot out there. The value (other than honouring the service of the soldier) is if the named recipient has something noteworthy on his record.

I recommend a non-sponsor whose runs the vimy dot ca website. He will research the recipient for a fee and give you more on the man's service history. Or, go through the steps by yourself.
 
Are they named or are they unnamed because they were unissued? Service medals were issued after the war in the early 1920s to those who were qualified for them. If I understand correctly these are unnamed unissued medals?

As mentioned much of the value is based on the naming. The higher the soldier's rank the higher the value. Infantry will sell for more money than a unit that served behind the front lines. It will seem like poor taste but medals to a casualty also bring higher value.

Officially these medals are called the 1914-15 Star, the Victory Medal and the British War Medal.
 
The 1914-15 Star medal is going to make the set more valuable, than the common 2 Canadian Medal set. I've seen 150-450 depending on trio's condition and recipient.
 
They lack the collector's value of named medals but some people would still want to buy them. I would guess their value at $100 to $125.

I bought a 1914-15 Star trio recently named to a man who served with the Canadian
Field Artillery. The price was $275 back in 2007. The price included the service file which is worth around $30.
