For those who knew can you tell me if the WWII Arisaka Type 30 bayonet (used on both T38 and T99 rifles) were blued or not? I got many photos of WWII IJA but they're all black and white, and a few color photos of the IJA I have their bayonets weren't blued but these were pre-WWII photos and I want to know if during WWII these were blued can anyone tell me and provide sources of this info please thank you!

Here's an old pic of some of my crap.

The rifle is a second model of the Type 99. AKA paratroop model.

The bayonets were blued. It's actually a fairly dark blue/black.

Don't forget, the term or finish treatment referred to as "bluing" is simply a rust process. It comes out different colours depending on a lot of variables, ie. chemicals used, type of material being blued, pre blue preperation, etc.

Most of the war time Japanese bayonets were made during a time when finish was not a priority, and the blue was done as a metal preservation rather than for asthetics.

One of our board members, Tall Terri, is probably one of the most knowledgable authorities of Japanese military items, in Canada. She has her own web site. And some really cool stuff.

Wow Koldt. I'm really impressed with this spread. Congratulations.
If you ever decide to sell, I would simply have to have it. I haven't seen a Japanese paratroop rifle (or Nambu Type 14) in such good shape in Canada.

Actually, I've only seen 4 Japanese Type 14's in Canada so far. I haven't been looking too hard, or in many places in Canada...but they're not common.
