What camouflage uniforms were available during WWII?

I know that the USMC in the Pacific used some Camo uniforms, but it seems in the European theater allied forces didnt use much besides slipping bushes or burlap into their helmet.

From pictures Ive seen and articles Ive read, it seemed the Germans placed more value to Camouflage than the Allied forces.

SS used camo as they were not considered regular army, so they has less red tape to go through. I don't recall ever seeing any Heer troops wearing Camo.

I'm pretty sure FJ German units used camo later in the war. I think Brit Para units used camo late in the war, but I can't confirm.

Funny thread timing, on monday evening I was at the Imperial war Museum whilst waiting for the HBSA lecture to start and there on the shop stand was an idiots guide to camouflage from the war years. The US Army did serious trials on cammo suits but the trial sets sent to Normandy looked too much like the SS pattern and was withdrawn, it was well received in the Pacific though.
The British used a fair amount in Europe, the Airborne divisions, 1 and 6 were issued Dennison Smocks and the 52 Div (mountain) were issued a hooded Kabrit style windproof smock in a similar pattern. Various special troops were issued similar and there was an SOE and SAS 1 piece coverall in Denison for parachuting.

From what I understand, there was some Allied (American) camo used, but too many "friendly fire" incidents occured, so was abandoned quickly. Many of them were mis-identified as SS, and shot first then asked questions.

The Luftwaffe also used Camo uniforms (some of them anyways). The closest Ive seen to Heer camo is green painted helmets :D

Typical German WW2 soldiers could have been issued Camo clothing. Usually different style and pattern as the SS.

Heer used "Splinter" pattern
SS used "Dot" pattern

German Army Used mostly a pattern Called Splinter A, they were issued smocks and their shelter half was in that pattern as well and could be worn as coat.

Fallshirmjagers used Splinter B pattern jump smocks and later in the war a tan and water pattern

the SS used several patterns of camo over the war, and there were varients of each as well, mostly spring and fall, Palm, Blurred Edge, Oak A and B, Dot 44

at the very end of the war a pattern called leibermuster was developed for all branches of teh military but it got a limited issue before the end of the war.

The US army had camoflage uniforms as well as the Marines.
The 41st Infantry division wore camo in their island hopping campaign through Peliua, the Luzon etc. The Marines got more exposure due to Iwo Jima.
I have in my collection U.S. Army issued Camo jacket and trousers as well the Pattern 1942 Marine corps Camo uniform...both are incredibly dificult to find and very pricy.
Cheers

Another interesting example of German camoflauge in use...

I spent highschool as a WWII nerd (as everyone called me) and spent many nights talking and debating about it with my uncle (who knows more about WWII than anyone else I have talked to, who was also the person that gave me my own copy of Mein Kampf, first edition english). I just never looked too much into the militaria.

anyone need ww2 german camo hats or helmet covers ?? i make them up for reenactors.

splinter type a or b was army camo pattern and used by waffen ss

italian camo was used by ss and lufftwaffe ground troops AND army on occasion aka normandy camo........

since the waffen troops were considered elite the got 1st pick on gear/recriuts and equipment.

the german forces TRIED to issue each soldaten 1 piece of camo gear ( either a hat /helmet cover /jacket /or trousers............
