WWII era Soviet Machine Gun and Farm Tractor info. wanted.

I read somewhere once that a certain WWII era Soviet machine gun shared some parts in common with a WWII era Soviet farm tractor (something to do with the cooling system as I recall) in order that field repairs could be made borrowing parts from farm tractors. Does anyone know if there is any truth to this tale? If so, what are the details?

The Commie Maxim had a tractor filler cap on the water jacket. The Finns came up with the idea of a big hinged lid on the jacket, so you could throw in handfulls of snow.
