WWII War Birds - pics and video

She does have a silhouette similar to a P-38 Lightning, but I can't figure why the Italians would want the balance issues created by having the pilot and attendant gear in the left pod?

The extra 20mm MG151 cannon (and ammo) in the right hand fuselage would have helped.

More pics of the DH Albatross in mufti. That may be a contender for Most Beautiful Airplane Ever, in close running against the Lockheed Constellation:

The attention paid to detail - the cowlings fit like surgical gloves, and the whole thing is a big teardrop with wings. Jesus, what a beautiful thing.

Beautiful aircraft!
Just weird the British have to complicate engine cooling by making it go against direction of flight. Probably lose some lift that way too.
But it sure is a sweet looking machine!

Spits are always nice, but one doesn't see Hudsons much represented. They're the Ford Maverick of WW2 allied aircraft - capable, solid enough, but overshadowed by Mustangs.

That big turnip of a turret didn't do anything to improve her looks. The later Ventura had nicer proportions:

The F-5 CASEVAC system - man-carrying pods mounted on the hardpoints of the photo recon version of the P-38.

Nice, if sphincter-tightening, view:

You're the pilot. The guy in the pod is a PITA. You owe him money and he won't shut up about it. If you had intercom, it might be fun to remind him that the drop tank release lever is just so handy in these crates, right here, beneath my fingers. Why, a guy could just reach over there, easy as pie, and pull that sucker with about two pounds of pressure. How's the view? Wanna see it get bigger?
