One Flying Tank coming up

Here's the reason why Werner Moelders advocated to his pilots to aim mid cockpit area when engaging the Sturmovik

More like armed Gee-Bee racer but yes,you are right.Big engine with wings.

You reminded me of something I read a while back.Soviets were offered a number of airplanes by Uncle Sam thru Lend-Lease,among them were P-47s.Soviets excepted only small number of them because it didn't fit their fighter use doctrine (or something like that).By their standards it was far too large for a fighter,it had huge engine requiring precise maintenance and it was capable of delivering larger bomb load than Soviet Pe-2 bomber.
In their eyes it wasn't a fighter and it surely wasn't a bomber(single seater) but it had lone range so it was employed in combat role mainly as a naval fighter-bomber in Norther and Baltic Fleet Air Arms.

Ahhh Thanks for posting!
Great lines on these birds. I find them aesthetically on par with the Spitfire, Mustang and Focke Wulf.

Still photos of the same machine, from the fantastic Flying Heritage Collection, at Everett WA
