Recently picked up a new Browning X-Bolt Hunter 30-06. I'm absolutely in love!

However, this is my first bolt action rifle and I noticed a bunch of bluing scraped off where the bolt meets the receiver after taking it to the range to sight it in...I am wondering if this is common to see? I only fired 30 rounds through it.

Thanks for your help!

It's not an "issue".

It's normal to see the finish come off when two pieces of blued steel move over each other. In time the action will become smoother and you will appreciate it even more.

X bolt

I have an x bolt .308 synthetic blued and have put nearly 300 rounds through it in three months, I shortened the trigger spring by one coil and it's a cracking gun, smooth, handles well good crisp trigger and mine will shoot serveral differant 165 grainers 3/4" and less when i do my part.
I bought one not being a great fan, but it met the criteria of what i like in a gun and i couldn't afford a Sako, but and a big but I would have to think long and hard about swapping it for anything else now.
I'm itching to hunt with it even if it's just coyotes.

Thanks SuberCub! Confirms my initial suspicions. I'm in the Forces and we're not particularly gentle with our weapons...and they've got tonnes of wear and tear on them. I'm not new to guns, just to owning my own. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't seeing something that was happening prematurely or that wasn't common. Appreciate the feedback.

Wilsy, I was in the same boat. I would have LOVED the Sako 85 Bavarian...felt perfect in my hands...but the near $2K price tag made it very much unrealistic! That said, I was very closely considering a Tikka T3 Hunter vs the Browning...but after many trips to the gun shop to put my hands on them I couldn't help but feel the X-Bolt edged ahead every time. Several features stood out (magazine feel/quality, trigger feel, recoil pad, scope mounting system, safety setup etc) and when combined with Browning's reputation for quality, accuracy and fit & finish this rifle won me over.

After my first trip to the range I couldn't imagine being much happier - shot beautifully in every respect. I can't wait to get it into the field and put some game between those crosshairs!!

Curious, what scope did you mount? I grabbed a Burris FFII 3-9X 40mm - I'm satisfied that it's decent glass for the money.

Scope

Hi Das killa
I recently emmigrated from the Uk and picked up a few pieces that i thought would be hard come by here, all of which were secand hand to me but a 4-16 x50 schmidt and bender, long range hunter with 30mm tube and a 4a ret, which i used on a old Parker hale for a while is what is living on top.
Absolutely, with no doubt a spectacular piece of glass.
A friend of mine is a gunsmith at home and would occasionally come up with deals to good to miss.

Hope it's OK to resurrect this thread. There wasn't much else that came up when I searched for anything related to Browning X-Bolts and durability.

Das Killa, how is the X-bolt holding up after a year? Anyone else have some insight on the durability of the Browning X-Bolt?

I have an X-Bolt Hunter in 30-06 I bought as my first bolt gun so you can take what I say with a grain of newb salt.
I've had it 16 months now put about 500 shots down range with it practicing, haven't taken it out hunting so the stock is still in basically mint shape. When I saw this post I went and looked for wear on my receiver or bolt and the only spot I could find was where the bolt handle meets the receiver before being locked down, and I had to really look to see any wear, its the tiniest spot.
As I have been practicing with this gun it has seen a fair amount of shooting at the range so far and hasn't had one malfunction of any type. The only thing that seems to have changed at all is the bolt has gotten smoother :)
At 100m I have shot a few sub MOA groups with hand loads but as my skills are still improving average group for me is 1-2", but these larger groups would be my fault not the guns. Over all I'm very happy with my X-Bolt, I ended up getting it for the same reasons listed by Das Killa listed, fit & finish, quality removable mag, ect.

I have handled the X-bolt a bit in our local store, but it's not for me.
A friend owns one and says it is very accurate....this is good.
I had a Browning A-Bolt in 338 Win Mag.
It was wonderfully accurate as well, but the trigger and the abortion magazine system left me cold, so I sold it off.
I have since replaced it with a Tikka T3 Hunter with a gorgeous piece of lumber on it.
Wear on sliding blued contact surfaces is quite normal, and no cause to be concerned.
If it works well for you, this is a good thing.
Regards, Eagleye.
