Picked up an Xmetal target and first impression of the target is that it was smaller than I expected. I was expecting something bigger, but that is just my expectations and certainly not a deal breaker. Nice smooth fine lines to the target, better than my cutting torch technique.

A few suggestions that I would like to see on my target are longer stakes and some area on the legs or on the crossbar that a person could use as an impact point to hammer the targets into the ground so one would not have to beat on the target with a hammer.

Got out tonight to actually shoot the target. Sun was down and little light left to shoot. I had set the target early in the day and painted a small vitals spot on the target. Rifle is a Stiller Tac 30 in 6x47 Lapua in a Manners T4 with a pound of lead in the butt, Bartlein .236 bore 1/8 twist, target taper at 28". I am running Berger 105 hybrids at 3175fps average with H4350 and 205M primers. Scope is an older Nightforce 5.5-22x56.

Coyote and Torso were both set at 385 meters. Temp was 4 degrees C, wind was 7kmh from 5:30 relative to target.

First shots were on the Coyote. First shot high was cold bore after just having cleaned. I anticipated a slight elevation decrease and overestimated by dialing too much elevation. Decided to hold for center of Orange vitals and fired three shots without any corrections.

Moved to my Torso target made of regular 1/2 black metal, huge difference in impacts damage. AR big splash, black metal divets. Fired two shots at my square heart and fired one at center mass with no corrections and then quit as it was too dark to continue shooting.

When funds allow I would like to pick up some more Xmetal targets, always wanted a dueling tree and would love a reactive torso target.

The Torso is just made of regular black metal, the coyote is AR500. The deep holes in the bottom of torso were shot a long time ago with a .240 weatherby with 95gr Bergers going over 3400 fps.

I bought a full reactive torso, the 3 gong version from them last year, and have had 5 shooting sessions with it since then. It is the full size AR500 torso version. We have shot it with everything from 6.5 Creedmoor to 338 Lapua at distances of 700 meters and put, and it has been flawless so far. Works like a dream, super durable, easy to set up and take down. Money well spent.

We've shot it on the first day at about 600 yards and then after a couple hours, moved it to 800. After hundreds and hundreds of hits, not even a dent in the gongs, metal still feels smooth.
I also really like that if one part where to ever break or wear out, you can just call them and order that one part.

I ask about distance because their round gongs have been perforated by 22-250, by someone mistakenly plinking at 50 meters (no, wasn't me). The literature in the box they came in states 100 yards minimum, but nowhere on their website is there a minimum distance specified.

I think velocity is more relevant than distance. I was going to say that small fast varmints rounds really mess with targets at closer range.

Sadly some people do not exercise common sense. Same thing happened with my set of 20 silhouette targets I made. Long story but someone decided to shoot my chickens at about 50 yards over the hood of a truck. What a rockstar.#

I've shooted my AR500 target at 15 feets with my 30-06 with nosler accubond bullet. Not a sigle dent/hollow.
Yeah it looks dangerous(and it is, I would'nt recommend it!!), but I make my target with some back hooks so they are at an downward angle to deflect ricochets and splatters on the ground. It turned out working perfectly... Making a big trench of 3 feets long, 6 inches deep on the snow under the gong!
I'm still impressed aboit AR500 compared to normal 44W steel, which 1/2 is'nt thick enough, 30-06 make perfect holes like a drill!!

X-metal target make some neat targets, but a tad pricey.

I've shot my Caldwell AR550 from 60 yrd with FMJ rifle rounds and it did just fine.
Box says minimum 100 yrds. I think ricochet it the concern with that rating though.
