The 458 x 2 is a potent little cartridge... A friend of mine back in 1967 built one on a Winchester 94, kept the loads down at 40,000 psi... I forget the weight but it was light... and it kicked hard... I built one on a 700 (from a 350 Rem Mag) back in the 70's, sold to a friend in New Hampshire. Didn't ever shoot it...

That would no doubt be Billy D. who was an amigo of mine from the 70's up 'till he went to the big beyond. His '94 was a tad shy of 7 lbs. and it whomped me somewhat more than my 45-70 Marlin 1895 that I had then when using loads of similar power.
That said, Very nice work on the thumper double gun. Even though I tend to shy away from stainless, that one
you've done is beauty & the blued bolt shroud is a neat touch. A 1.5-4.5x scope of your choice would be ideal on the wee beasty. If yer into cast boolit loading, you can throw some serious bombs out there to deal with anything on legs.

It's aluminum and anodized black - which will be bead blasted silver to match the rifle... Sorry.
I had everything lined up to build one two years ago. The donor, dies, brass, bullets, the barrel ordered and paid for. After six month the sponsor smith (who's no longer a sponsor) still hadn't received my barrel and couldn't give an eta. He offered me a refund and I took it. By then I had bought my .375 Ruger Alaskan which filled the role of short barrel thumper. Still like the idea of the .458x2" in a short bolt action. One day maybe.
Nicely done DG, I want to do the same thing only in 416X350 RM........Just bought 3-700 bolts and one is a short action magnum boltface and I have a 308 700 donor leaning on my lathe, and I have one of Bevans 416 barrels.............all I'm missing is the motivation..........
I haven't decided whether I'm going to go 416-350 RM or 416 WSM........the same bolt will work for either.........Both cases are a touch longer than 2" and I can lengthen a short 700 a full 1/2" so I wouldn't limit myself to the 2" case.

This was on a m7 - my only disappointment in the build was it was supposed to be built on one of Bevans barrels with a integral lug, but sadly he passed away before he finished the barrel.
I considered the 416/350 but thought that most 416 bullets were made fairly tough for bigger critters than our 200lb whitetails and our "big" 350lb black bears. The 45 stuff appeals to me because of the wide range of bullets available from light hollow points to heavy thick jackets. Maybe I'm wrong about the 416 bullets.
I believe D-man on here has a 416/350, perhaps he will chime in.
