X95 Bolt Pin

Hi folks!

Finally got my X95 out to the range and I've run into some challenges trying to strip it for cleaning. I normally would have done this right when I got it, but I had the same issue back then but it was brand new so I just oiled it and hit the range. What I'm finding is that I can't push the bolt pin out of the bolt carrier. I've tried using my brass punches, but it feels like I'm pushing far too hard and I don't want to damage anything. I've pulled the rod that comes out of the rear of the carrier all the way back, making sure to really work on it to make sure it's fully retracted...but no dice.

Anyone have any thoughts on this? Should I just take a mallet and punch and have a go at it, or am I missing something obvious?

You need to push the guide rod allll the way out the back of the buffer in order for it to fall out. You can use the cleaning rod that came with the rifle as a punch and may need a couple of taps to fully seat it back. Pin should easily pop out when you have it back far enough.

When did you buy your X95? If it is after April 2020 (manufactured), you are likely running across the same problem a number of us have - that rod has to come out a LOT more than what can be pulled by normal strength - most of the Youtube videos are of the pre-2020 version where you can just pull it as far back as it goes.

The bolt assembly design (recoil mech) changed then (2020) in order to support 300 Blackout, and the end result for take down is that you need to pull that rod out even further. There is a video on using a mallet to tap that rod so it extends beyond what it can be physically pulled...I will post it in a sec once I find it.

Cleaning? I don't understand. My x95 is on the same cleaning regimen as my Glocks, read: almost non-existent. I'll run a pull through every now and again.

When did you buy your X95? Thank you both, this was the issue. I had to put it in my bench vise and tap it out further with a cleaning rod and mallet. After that the pin just popped right out. I imagine after a bit of wear this will get easier, I'd like to be better able to strip the bolt in the field if I have to. Not that I'd ever need to, and as @Painkillers pointed out my cleaning it at all is probably overkill. But unless I know how everything works and what condition it's currently in, I won't trust my life to it.

First time I took it apart I had to use something to tap it. After that I could do it via my hands but its still stiff.
