Hi everyone,

It has been brought to my attention in conversation with another CGNer that this notch on the underside of a factory X95 cocking bar is due to operator error.

I bought the rifle used, so if that is in fact the case I don't know if the previous owner is responsible or if it's me. If it's me, I'd really like to know what I'm doing wrong, as it looks like I have done it over and over again.

It sure looks like it was machined intentionally to me though, and if not, it would require multiple, considerable efforts to take that big of a chunk out of the rod.

What say you all?

That is what happens when you try to unlock the barrel without first removing the rod. I know because I did it and have a rod that looks exactly the same after, I also cracked my gas cylinder. So I would check that to make sure its also not damaged

The rod is made of aluminum and the part that contacts it doing the damage is made of steel, so that is why the damage looks so bad. And no it doesn't have to be done over and over, that damage occurs from one bad attempt.

Luckily they were both pretty cheap and easy to replace

But you have to make sure you order the correct cocking lever, there is 2 different styles, first attempt I got the wrong one. After I found out about the 2 different styles and got the correct one

Thanks all. I've never tried to unlock the barrel so it must have come to me like that. I only discovered it because I replaced it with a MA folding one.

Any videos, photos or step by step directions using small words on how to inspect the gas block would be welcome though. It shoots great, that much I know.

You just have to inspect it, if the rifle shoots fine Id assume its not cracked.

Basically its a thin metal sleeve cylinder over moulded in plastic, if its cracked your looking for cracks in the plastic and the bore of the cylinder being crushed out of round
