X95 or MK18 type rifle

Not to hijack, just genuinely curious as to why the old are better than the new.

And do you mean Gen 1 Tavors or Gen 2 (or whatever they're up to now)

The consensus is that the X95 is noticeably less accurate than the original TAR21. The TAR21 takes SOME measures to try to float the barrel off the polymer shell.
The X95 does away with the "6 points of contact" philosophy for shooting offhand that the TAR was built around.
The X95's "AR-style" magazine release button isn't really in the same place as an AR, so it's actually not all that intuitive and is susceptible to debris if you're gonna get rough with it. It's not uncommon for your magazine to have to be manually striped out anyway so you're not even getting a much better gofast gun.

The only thing the X95 is better at is hanging all sorts of toys off it's many more rails. Those rails also necessitated the repositioning of the charging handle on the X95, which I consider to be another downgrade, but that's really subjective. If you need as many rails as possible for grips, lasers, lights, etc, the X95 is the clear choice.

I personally chopped down my top rail to make a faux-IDF model, because all I'm going to put on is an optic, everything else is dead weight.
