Got the X95 for two weeks, just got to shoot it yesterday as I had been sick for weeks.
Here is the quick review Part I, stock setup as promised. Once I got my ADM mount(newly designed for X95: AD-RECON-PB-H-30-TAC), I will do another review at outdoor range @ 100 and 200 yards even though it's not a bench gun(I do intend to use it as a coyote gun given it's non-restricted.
).
Overall impression: Great rifle!
1. The setup. Everything stock with ATRS 10/20 LAR15 Mags as shown in the picture.
2. Quality and handling. Made in Isreal. Great quality. QD points everywhere which are good for accessories and slings. A little bit on the heavy side, but very well balanced and compact compared to AR with the same barrel length. I tried the clear room routine in my apartment from room to room with no problem maneuvering between rooms and in the corners, except being called an idiot by the wife.
3. Accuracy. It's not a bench gun, but a combat rifle for CQB. So, my test @ my indoor range @ 25 meters actually fits the purpose. It's plenty accurate for what it is. see the two targets below. Both are at 25 meters, 2-hand standing, no support, rapid fire. Nothing special, but I would say dead terrorist accuracy. Lol....
2:1 ratio target, mimicing 6-FT terrorist @ 50 meters. 20 rounds, rapid fire
Letter size target. 10 rounds, rapid fire, all landed in a 3" x 3.5" area.
4. Recoil. Given no recoil to begin with 223, and the gun is relatively heavy, it's very easy to control and no feeling on shoulder at all. However, the gun still push the shoulder back and thus muzzle will be off target quite a bit. so, if to use it in a 3-gun gig, a muzzle brake is in order which I will install soon(got a phase 5 littleboy which also works great on my 308 bolt action and removed the muzzle rise completely and reduce recoil a lot).
5. Trigger. This is one of the bigger improvement over the original tavor. the trigger is light, crisp and reset is short. However, I don't really mind the trigger on the original tavor as I shoot 44mag revolvers in DA regularly. I guess practice makes it easier. With that said though, because the rifle is so good out-of-box, for a control freak like me, I am kind of dying to know if I can squeeze more out of the gun by upgrading the trigger to geissele super sabra trigger pack and lightening bow combo. Yes, the price tag is hefty @ around C$700 just for trigger upgrade. Yet, it could mean another great 3-gun option. So... decisions, decisions....
6. Reliability. the gun shot flawlessly, but I did run into issues with Barnaul steel case fmj lead core ammo with ATRS 10/20 mags because the same ammo was fine with factory and PMAGs. the same ATRS mags work fine with AE 223 ammo. So, not sure what the issue was and I am asking a friend to test the same mags and ammo combo in his AR and X95. The issue was from 2nd round, the ammo won't feed and I had to manually load each round by pulling the bolt handle. ATRS was not aware of the issue, but said they never tested with Barnaul ammo.
