I don't go for a light gun in magnum cals
Trying to get the rifle and scope around the 10lb mark, so not trying to get super crazy light per se.

my thoughts behind the brake was more that I wanted the threaded muzzle more than the brake.
A guy can hope for silencers one day in this country![]()
Are those stocks going to be lighter than factory or just better ergos?

I have 3 x bolts - 308, 30-06 and .223. I haven't had in issue with any of them. They are very very light rifles. To be frank an xbolt in 300wm probably would be uncomfortable to shoot off the bench. I have also owned some Tikka's, don't have any right now, they were awesome as well, my only complaint with them was a slightly heavy trigger.
The Tikka trigger is easy to adjust to around 2-1/2lbs. Many X-bolt triggers will not adjust to below around 3-1/2lbs.
X bolt, any x bolt. I have a micro composite for hunting in thick stuff and a hells canyon speed for open ground. Both shoot good groups with factory stuff (Hornady precision hunter) or handloads, and I didn’t both going crazy on load development. Both of mine will do 3/4” 3 shot or 1” 5 shot with factory ammo and 3/4” 5 shot groups with handloads, and I’m not that great of a group shooter. Cold bore shots at 430 yards (the furthest I commonly shoot, topography dictates my distances, haha) for both are always bang on, it’s not even a challenge. I love x bolt ergonomics and controls, for myself. I’ve got 300-400 rounds through each of mine and have zero issues. Both of my triggers only went down to 3.5-4 pounds, but broke like glass. I replaced the springs, down to 2.75 and 3 now, even better. Not much aftermarket for browning, but they’re pretty well good to go out of the box: buy rifle, insert ammo, knock stuff down.
I’m with others that think brakes are dumb. Both of mine are threaded, but just wear the protector caps, brakes gather dust. If I did it again I’d go for a stainless synthetic over the fancy finishes.
Tikka’s are very good as well. I don’t like where the safety is, I don’t like that their short action is a long action and I don’t like their 3 round mag. More aftermarket for Tikka’s. More yet for Remington and Savage, if that matters to you (it doesn’t to me).
I would say shoulder each, work the action, work the safety, see which YOU prefer. If you can, have the store throw a scope on each and check cheek weld / eye alignment as well.
Happy hunting, let us know what you go with!
Just sold my Xbolt last weekend. I liked the gun. But in my opinion it doesn't compare to a Tikka. The bolt isn't as near as smooth and the trigger isn't as nice. Loved the look of the gun, and it shot extremely accurately for the few rounds I put through it.
But I have wanted a T3x laminate stainless for a long time now. Finally picked one up yesterday in .308 Win. Go to a store and shoulder both of them, see which one fits and go from there. You can always improve the Xbolt's trigger with one of those springs. But honestly I bet once you cycle the bolt of the T3x, that will be the one you walk out with. Just my two cents.![]()
I voted other because the basic T3 is awesome. My only complaint would be the 3 round mag but bigger mags are available.
