Folks, not saying I want or plan on going 56mm objective scope but wondering if anyone has mounted one on a Xbolt? 30mm tube size, I know browning says up to 56mm for high rings but not sure if they mean objective size or outside diameter...emailed browning with no response..

Directly from the browning website:

Use the .600" High ring height for scopes up to a 56mm objective with a standard barrel contour.

Also, good lord, why such an enormous scope?

Thanks for the reply...I seen that on the Browning site but I'm thinking it means up to 56mm outside diameter, not 56mm lens as many scopes are different outside diameter.

Only reason I was considering is because of a good deal on a 56mm I found. However I'll likely just stick with a 50mm max whenever I upgrade. My rifle has somewhat high comb but I don't think its 56mn high lol

No one dimensions or assumes the dimension is to the OD of the bell. The industry standard is the objective lens size.
Browning doesn’t make a barrel big enough to be an issue with 30mm rings.

Pretty sure I read a few times people needing medium xlock mounts for 40mm and highs for 50mm even though they say high is good for up to 56mm and medium are good for 44mm. Most of what I seen Zeiss are 62mm O.D, Leupold are something like 65mm, seen a Vortex that was 72mm (adjustable objective)...all with 56mm lens. I realize 56mm is a industry standard for scope sizing but I was wondering if anyone actually has a 56mm with the xlock mounts or if they needed different mounts. I can't remember for sure but I feel like the last Xbolt I had with a 40mm scope needed medium Xlock, not the advertised low. Maybe a better question is...does anyone have a Xbolt, non bull barrel with a 50mm or above scope. If so, what's the scope and are you using one piece Xlock mounts?

So, the various models of scope have different lengths and shapes of the front bell, there is no absolute scenario that will 100% tell you it will work that all scopes will clear and have a close minimum height.

The best thing to do is mock it up in place, position your scope on some temporary jig/mount/playdoh or whatever for position and then measure.

If you have a cheap mount that is way too tall, then you can sit the scope in the saddles of it and measure clearance from the bell to the barrel, and then the height of the scope tube to action minus the clearance gives you the minimum height needed. If its a 34 mm tube then see if you can find someone to loan you a set, or even drill a piece of 2x4 lumber with a 34+ mm diameter hole and drop the blocks of wood (or tape them on) and center the scope, this will enable you to get a measurement. Only takes 10 minutes to figure this out if you tools and material.

Or order some $10 rings or something from china and drop them on.

I just figured someone might already have a large scope to say hey the one piece Xlocks didn't work for me. I didn't have the 56mm scope to mock up and figure out ring height needed. No big deal, and since the opening post I have talked myself out of the 56mm, the good deal I had my eye on is already gone. Thanks all for the input.
