Im looking hard into buying an XCR in 7.62X39 and i was wondering how bad the corrosive ammo is to shoot in it or if i should just stick to buying the non-corrosive? Oh and one more stupid question, what is the BUIS system?

thanks

Haven't cleaned or lubed mine for +900 rounds and more than 2 months now and no rust issue (some spots on the piston but nothing dramatic), still on gas setting 2 (but it's just for testing, 3 would be my choice) and 1.5 to 2.5 MOA so I'm happy.
My understanding with corrosive ammo is that your environment is key: dry, no pb, humid : rust. But because the barrel is chrome line, rust shouldn't do too much damage comparing to a non CL one.
just my 2c

Not to burst your bubble here but........

My understanding of corrosive ammo is that it is corrosive. During the time when that type of ammo was commonplace riflemen were taught to meticulously strip and clean every time they finished firing for the day. I for one would never ever go with the forlorn hope that dry environment would get me through. Disassemble and clean scrupulously. Every time.

I am of the same conclusion as Niko-PG. Unless you live in a rain forest the corrosive ammo doesn't seem to bother XCR. I have left mine for longer and longer periods of time, inspecting it periodically and have noticed no ill effects.

Well, I live in the Alberta desert. A friend took that attitude with an SKS. It was fine for a couple years. Then he left it for a couple of months stored the same as always. Picked him up to go shooting, and he had a long face, and a red fuzz encrusted non-moveable gun.

Do what you want, but if it were my rifle, hot water for everwhere that the gas could touch. Solvent for the chamber for the laquered cases. Then dry, and lube.

Same thing with a buddy of mine. SKS, poor cleaning habits, Alberta... Rusted rifle.

I own an XCR, I don't care what people say, I won't convert to 7.62x39. What the hell is the point anyway? Go buy a CZ 858. Near the same amount of accuracy in x39 anyway. Why would you put ####ty corrosive ammunition through a $2500 rifle?

Why would you put s**tty corrosive ammunition through a $2500 rifle?
Because you can, and everyone loves shooting cheap ammo.:)

There shouldn't be any problems if you clean it right. Whatever method you prefer, stick to it, and inspect it every once in a while to make sure nothing is going awry. I haven't had any problems to date. I shoot a CZ858 as well. Personally, I like to use Gunzilla. It has done me well to date.

To OP, BUIS system is the back up iron sights system as mentioned above. Used when bad optics fail you, of course.
