I plan on picking up or putting a deposit on an xcr in .223 or 7.62 in the next few days but I found a couple posts in the xcr FAQ section that didn't give the best numbers. Anything over 2moa I might as well just get a cz for 1/4 the price.
I have only fired one XCR. Brand new. It was fitted with a NF 2 1/2-10. We tried it with four or five different quality loads, including ones that I use for Service Conditions (i.e. known accuracy from my AR). No white box generic ammunition. Firing was done from a bench. It was a four minute rifle. I was underwhelmed. But, as I said, this was only one rifle.
I was shooting my XCR yesterday with some loads I made for it and was getting 1.25 to 1.5 with monotonous regularity. This is a 7.62x39. Load was 130gr Barnes tripped triple shock over Hodgdon Benchmark. Also shot a few groups with Norinco FMJ and they all stayed under 2 inches. If you are not getting good accuracy with an XCR try making sure the barrel bolt is tight.
mine is a 3-5 minute rifle, but the barrel is going back to robinson for un-####ing. They say it should be 1.5-2 moa gun. However, Alex says the 18.6 bbl is also less accurate than the 16" because its using the gas system for the 16. And theyre working on a match grade 18.6 with longer gas system and rail but who knows when we;ll see that.
Those numbers sound more like a smoothbore sending out rifled slugs. Man I'll be choked if my factory 10/22 is more accurate than a $2600 pos. If it wasn't for the unrestricted factor I'd go for something else. I chose it over the cz expecting better accuracy. Sounds like it's about the same and that is sad. I hope I get lucky or that new barrel comes out soon and affordable.
I get + or - 3" 3 shot groups @ 300 yards with my XCR-L in 6.8spc loaded with 95gr Barnes TTSX @ 2825fps.
This pic of the rock was 3 shots @ 347 yards I was holding dead center of the rock not allowing for windage the cross wind was appr 5 - 8 mph my rest was a box on the back of my quad and I shot all 3 shots in appr 10 seconds.
First shot just missed low left and you can see where the other 2 hit...
If you were to get a 7.62X62 and plan on shooting cheap surplus ammo I wouldn't expect much in the way of accuracy but that has nothing to do with the rifle.
I also have a 223 barrel I just haven't spent the time to work up loads with it like I did the 6.8spc right now I am averaging just under 1 1/2" 3 shot 100 yard groups with it I expect to do a lot better when I find the load/bullet combo that it likes.
I like this rifle so much that I just ordered all of the components so I can have complete uppers for both of the barrels/scopes I have so I don't have to mess around resighting in every time I switch them...
Well that sounds a bit better. Now I'm also gonna have to get a
new auto press, i'm getting 2 crates for break in but I don't think I can keep up with my single stage. I was hoping for decent numbers with factory bulk ammo and not HAVE to handload just to hit a pop can. Ha imagine... Armed crow at 100y... Put down the xcr and pick up the 10/22 to make a first shot kill. Discusting.
my XCR ( before i sold it ) would group 40 gr. reloads around an 1" to an 1 1/2" over 10 shots at 100 yards, every other bullet weight i tried went anywhere from 3-4 moa, up to 6 moa with the 69 gr sierra matchkings.
