Being from the States(in Canada currently)I had the ARs and coyote hunted with them along with plinking, targets, etc. and really like the platform.
Having said that I have come to appreciate the XCR-L keymod I'm currently breaking in.
Between the two I'd say the AR is better from a "proven thru decades standpoint", cheaper, accuracy is good, more difficult to clean and here in Kanuckistan, Restricted.
The XCR takes some break in(I am running mine wet with a light 3-1 oil due to winter and from an initial gas setting of 2.) Had a few
(5-6) stoppages in the first 100-150 rounds as I went from BlK box AE FMJ to Hornady VMax, to Fed SMK, to Fed AE JHP sometimes in the same magazine.
I concentrated mostly on simply getting rounds down range in order to familiarize myself with the gun and do the recommended break in rather bench test. I did, after finding the Fed AE 50 gr JHP shot more accurately offhand, I did shoot sitting from a 3 legged stool in the field @ 100m and was 2-2 3/4".
Groups sitting with my back against a fence post and shooting to 243m produced 6" groups with Blk box AE FMJ, 4-4 1/2 with Hornady VMax and 3-3 1/2" with AE 50 JHP
Before running out of the Fed AE 50 JHP I took the last mag and a half and shot prone with a 6-9 Harris Bipod and a popcorn filled sock for a rear bag. The two groups were 1" and 1 1/4".
After ordering and receiving 10 boxes of the Fed 50 gr JHP, I continued to break in with only one stoppage and tried the new lot of Fed AE 50 JHP again at 100m after repositioning the front sling swivel stud(bipod mount), prone in 1ft. of snow off a mat and the bipod resting on my backpack.
Results were 3-3 1/2". Honestly, I was uncomfortable, -22 C, laying in a foot snow and the bipod feet on an unstable backpack as opposed to the previous try with them firmly on the ground.
The new XCR-L keymod apparently is lighter and more accurate than the older models(just a guess from reading) and very close/same as the accuracy of a stock out of the box AR(I'm basing that on a Colt Hbar and a Bushmaster Entry I had from about 5-6 years ago)
I don't "mag dump", I'm mostly a hunter and target type, although I did dump 2 mags from the Entry into a meth lab I found on my lease in the States. So my shooting and accuracy results may differ from what you use the platform for. I have noticed two groups of vertical stringing at 100m from prone(5 rnds/group)but I'm betting it's me pushing the butt trying to get low enough to get a full scope rather than any heat/light barrel/ROF issues.
My 2 cents as a reference towards helping you decide.
ETA just in case you consider the newer BAR type semi, I recently had a 243 ShorTrac(same basic design as the FNAR/Hogstalker) and it was the worst gun I have ever owned, seen owned, shot, seen shot or heard of. The browning rep(US) told me they only guarantee 5" at 100 yds. They leave that tidbit out of their ads.
