XCR Are they worth the money?

I owned one a few years ago and loved it, sold it just because of money issues when we started having kids. I want to buy another one soon and I am wondering about the differences between the heavy and light barrel versions? My primary use would be hunting.
light barrel for hunting, gun is better balanced and easier to carry in the field the lighter it is.

Before people jump on board with the "ethics" of hunting deer with .223....yes, you could use an XCR to take deer.

Well an XCR-M sure in .308 would work great, I think that most provinces in Canada it's illegal to shoot anything bigger then a coyote with a .223 In fact my next purchase I think will be an XCR-M in .308 I already have a Tavor in .223 so a XCR-M would be a great bigger gun that can be used to legally take large game as well as being a whole lot of fun to shoot.

I personally would Never attempt to kill a deer with my XCR-L. I don't believe the FAST(stock) is capable. Plus swinging a gun(especially a semi) by the barrel is foolish. However SHOOTING and KILLING a deer with a Nosler partition or a TSX would be no problem in 223. lol

Depends how hard you use it. If you are going to be running it hard, and reliability is paramount the tavor is the better option for you.

If you were going to say restricted is no big deal. A good quality AR is the best option for you.

I had the heavy barrel before, was a tad heavy but not horrible. Are the light barrels still as accurate as the heavy?
no idea, I have been waiting for reports on the new keymods before I will consider buying.

I spent a lot of time with an earlier version and it was plagued with issues. RA claims with the new keymods they have fixed everything from the past. I am only interested in the L in 7.62x39 keymod with light barrel and there is not much online that I can find from unbiased users.

I hunt with my rifles, so they have to work the first time every time or the animal gets away in most cases and that is not acceptable to me.

for the first 2 shots, after that accuracy drops way off...:) seriously though, my HB keymod holds it's accuracy , after lots of bullets down range. From my experience with a pencil barrel ( not an XCR) groups open up quickly.

I see this being posted a lot, why is the tavor being thrown in against conventional styled rifles all the time? It should be in the running with all the other bulpups no?

not picking on you specifically, just find it weird to compare such vastly different platforms all the time.

I REALLY wish someone would get you some info on that caliber. Just as you had alot of anecdotal experience in the past, I now have almost 2000 rounds through my 5.56 XCR and it's performed flawlessly. I had a couple stove pipes on break-in while getting the gas set properly but since then nothing. I'd say that even though most admit to it not being super accurate, it's more than adequate for taking a deer from a responsible distance (assuming of course the 7.62 is comparable to my rifle). How far would 7.62x39 be effective for hunting deer? Just wondering as I've only ever hunted with a bow.

Where's that link to your 450 ACR? I've been trying to find it. Thumbs up... that's a nice looking and creative setup. What did it end up running you once you got the barrel conversion?
Edit: Nevermind I got it....really cool gun man : http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php/1122959-The-Bushmaster

Very good firearm, buy a x39 model, hunt and plink to your hearts desire. I prefered my xcr over the tavor because of the ability to easily convert calibres. 223 is good for poodles and jihidists but not very ethical for larger game. Or the CPC could derestrct the AR15 and these threads would all but dissappear.

Never owned the older XCRs, but the new one(type 3)keymod shoots well(I coyote hunt with it). Has a nice balance. I have only shot reasonably fast at targets(5 rounds, walk down, check target, walk back, insert new mag, and send 5 more). I've not seen an issue with the pencil barreled model I have. I did tune a coyote's cruise control up that I jumped with a mag beginning at about 100m all the way out to 250m yds

It's light enough to hump around the farms with 2 mags, in shin deep snow along with a pack full of hand calls, e caller, water, snacks, folding stool/pad, etc. However I'll darn sure use snowshoes next time, but not because of the xcr weight.

A 6.8 or 7.62x39 will likely be in my future.

100yds or so,fine for the areas and types of hunting I would use it for

the cost of a brand new ACR and I paid a bit more than what Ian at Herron charges for a regular NR 223 conversion as he had to tool up for the caliber. It was the first in Canada to get an FRT with the 450 caliber so that took a bit of time as well.

It's really cool. So wouldn't it be easier/cheaper to just get a 7.62 conversion for your ACR? You'd have the best of both worlds then. Accuracy and a platform you enjoy and trust?

I could provided I did two scopes on their own quick release mounts and it will hold zero but would still have to be checked which sometimes isn't that favorable during a hunt. But that is an option I am fighting with inside my brain

But the 450 sees more hunting use anyways since I hunt areas and times where deer, moose and elk seasons all overlap and they are all in that same area. the x39 would be more for late season when the only thing left open is deer.

Makes sense. So, I'm guessing the renewed interest in the XCR in 7.62 would be just to maybe save a bit of dough and not go through the exercise of converting another ACR? Save some weight maybe? If you are hunting inside 150 yards I don't see any reason why the XCR's accuracy would be an issue; assuming that the 7.62 round doesn't spray bullets all over the place.
