XCR Are they worth the money?

I have the XCR-M tan and shot over 1500 rds through it and has not missed a beat. The gas setting is finicky to what ammo you use i have shot norinco , amer. Eagle and hornady match. This rifle eats everything and is very accurrate out to 600 yrds no problem with my 1-6 vortex scope. Next challange is 1000 yrds which I will still have to find a good spot to try it. Answer to your question yes it is worth the money but I would like to have a Scar17 but they won't be in canada at anytime... And XCR is the next best rifle in my opinion. Bullet proof , very well made !

My XCR has been well worth the money for me. I enjoy shooting it a lot, and it has been relatively problem free. The only issue I had was with my bolt catch, but it was repaired under warranty because it was part of a group of faulty bolt catches. Could have happened to any rifle really.

Depends on how you measure value. How valuable is hunting with an AR-15 styled rifle, to you personally?

For the same money; You could buy a nice AR-15 for fun at the range, and also a dedicated hunting rifle to hunt with.

Not to mention an AR-15 would be better than the XCR for range games, and a hunting rifle would be much easier to carry around in the bush.

Not sure why an AR would be better than an XCR at "range games", although everyone would have their reasons. I used my XCR-M this fall for moose hunting just for fun and I really enjoyed it. Just being able to shoot it anywhere makes it worth it IMHO.

Why limit yourself to "fun at the range" with an AR when you can have fun in the back 40,at the gravel pit ,in a clearcut,at the cabin,on a frozen lake....wherever and whenever you want, without jumping thru the hoops of obtaining RPAL,not to mention the strict transportation regs directly to and from an approved range....no thanks.
Also agree with saskcop....not sure how or why an AR might be "better" for range games.....and I don't see an XCR as being any more difficult to carry in the bush then most other hunting rifles, with the exceptions maybe of a lite weight single shot or iron sighted lever carbine?

This pretty much sums it up!

This is what I mean by "It depends on how you personally measure value".

For you (and plenty of others here) using an AR-15 styled rifle for hunting is a very high value. So therefore worth every penny.

Others (like me) are better off buying two separate guns.

Dexter, who needs a reason to buy two separate guns? LoL! I am with you on that for sure. I just need another XCR in 5.56. Keymod with a lightweight barrel would do the trick.

I'm with you on this one Dexter Morgan, also everyone seems to be forgetting about the better accuracy of a quality AR compared to a XCR's accuracy.

Also the bolt gun for hunting would also be more accurate and reliable then a XCR and hunting is where both these features really count.

One other point I really don't get is people saying a XCR is like an AR. Really cause I just don't get it, the XCR comes across like a cheap alternative to a decent quality AR (for me anyways, but obviously not for everyone so it seems).

When I compare a XCR to a quality AR it's like a major contrast in build quality and design to me with the AR feeling so right and a XCR not.

As for the RPAL required for an AR's range use, it's easy peasy once you're RPAL licensed you can travel to any restricted range in your province (even farther) w/o asking or needing anything to be done. So if you don't have a RPAL yet you should get one ASAP, because the more RPAL owners the harder it will be to take AR's or any other restricted away from of us all.

If you think Restricted's don't matter because you have a NR XCR, don't kid yourself because those semi's would be next.

We need to stand united as a group with us all being RPAL licensed.

Cheers D

Nothing to do with supporting RPAL/restricteds, even though I do. I simply have NO ACCESS to any local RANGES and I hunt coyote year round so for me a Restricted is less than USELESS in my particular case.

I have owned or was supplied numerous ARs(Colt, Bushmaster) and I also own a XCR L. Not a big practical difference in either, stock out of the box, other than the grossly inflated XCR price due to it's legal status.

To me, I'd give the AR(the real ones) a slight edge because I've used and depended on them where Rambo wouldn't go. They are cheap, battle proven and about the same accuracy of a XCR, and well supported. None of which is a huge priority for me, an American with a home in Canada also.

Many folk here(in Canada) are similar, they want/ need a usable, practical gun for whatever reason without the King's law/justice up their azz and in their business. The XCR, best suits that requirement.
