Hey guys..just got my first black rifle used on the EE, its a newer XCR in .223. After cleaning I noticed some pitting in the bore around the gas port. Went to the pit tonight and shot a few 25 round groups this is the tightest, is this what I should expect from the rifle, or is my barrel dinked?

shots taken at 50 yards with an eotech off a makeshift rest.

lol, well I will be relieved if its just me. Im not a new shooter tho so its making me wonder about the barrel being dicked. I was rather dissapointed when I started shooting it. anyone have a good .223 barrel they dont mind parting with?

You sure its pitting in the bore and not carbon build-up? How can you be sure? My XCR is going on 4000 rnds and still shoots sub MOA with hand loads.
Looks like your enjoying your xcr, moving targets are way more fun.
I haven't taken mine to the range since the gopher swarm arrived.

yep, im sure its not carbon. if it was carbon, it would have been removed when cleaned. the rest of the bore is shiny except for the one half after the gas port. the more i cleaned it the more it looked like pitting. looks like im getting a new barrel, as Im now stuck with the rifle now lol.

also, if yours has gone through that much ammo and still shoots tight, then, that is a dead give away that somthing isnt quite right here lol

and the ammo is AE223...it will shoot the odd decent 3 shot group at 50 yards and then be all over the place. ive been doing 20 round groups to get a good picture of how this thing shoots..and so far, it seams to shoot like #### lol

looks like im getting a new barrel
Before I got a new barrel I'd pop a half-decent scope on the rifle and shoot it from a solid rest. Nothing wrong with EOTechs, they're just not meant for precision work. Maybe have another shooter try the rifle as well?

well, I plan to scope it regardless so my next step is to put on a scope and solid mounts and go from there. Im still hoping its me. Ive run about 70 rounds through it so far, starting to get annoyed with it. cleaned the shat outta the bore as well. I wish i could get a decent pic of what it looks like. if you look down the bore, about 3-4 inchs in it is dark, spotty and the rifling isnt as sharp, but its only on half the bore, the other side looks great.

My guns never liked AE223, 1.5-3 moa is all i ever got with that stuff, however, reloading AE brass i'm getting moa.

Ask the previous owner what ammo they used. That might help with the decision.

I was getting a 5 round group in what looks to be your 1 ring with irons at 50m (off a rest).

Try some Hornady steel match 55gn that stuff is lights out in my XCR. Better then Remington umc,Winchester, Hornady z-max and a lot better then AE223 which I found shot the worst of the lot.
