XCR group

I got my XCR used as well and all I've ever shot is AE 55gr and even with that I can hit a 12" gong 7 out of 10 at 300 yards with an Aimpoint M3 2moa dot. When I scope it I get more hits but have noticed that when I go for paper accuracy I will get a flyer every 3rd or 4th round. I figure it's the crappy AE ammo. I've never tried any quality ammo cause it's not that important to me as it was never built to be an accuracy platform. Serves me and my use quite well.

Ok, well, small update for thouse who care lol. Its been hot asssss fuk this week, working out side tends to wear ya out so I wasnt 100% tonight. Stole the optics from the M14 tonight, got it on paper at 25m, nice tight 10 shot group. backed up to 50ishm, group opens up but 6 of the ten holes are veary close, three touching. switched from AE223 to some federal of the same weight and holt effing wow, looked like a shotgun pattern again. Check rifle, every thing is tight. packed every thing up at that point. Plan to head out early saturday while its cooler and try again. Whats the typical grouping for 100m? I read storys about 1 moa and 1/2moa and honestly, that seams a bit far fetched... Still lovin this thing, just need to get it all sorted out.
and more info here would be great, thanks guys

Here is a group shot at 200yards. It was off a rucksack and an unsupported rear. It was 7.62x39 Chinese surplus from 1972. The first was low and left. Adjustments made second was low and central. Another adjustment and the following 8 were centered around the bullet.

An XCR is capable of being a sub MOA gun with the right shooter, the right optics and the right ammo. That being said AE223 is not great ammo and I imagine that it is not capable of much better than 2" groups at 100 yards.

Get some match ammo(or work up some handloads) and put a nice peice of glass on it and your groups will almost certainly tighten.

With my 223 upper installed with 40gr V-Max and a top load of H322 I average 1 1/2" - 1 3/4" 100 yard 10 shot groups I have a Vari X 11 4-12X40mm LR reticle scope mounted.

With my 6.8SPC upper installed loaded with 95gr TTSX and a top load of H322 I average 3/4" - 1" 100 yard 3 shot groups and have made many 3" - 5" 350 yard 3 shot groups I have a VX111 4.5-14X40mm Varmint reticle LR scope mounted.

So to those of you that are spewing that MOA is shiite your full of schit... :p

I did notice that the first 3-6 shots were close, then things started to open up. everything is tight, Im starting to lean towards cheep ammo and tired shooter. Did not have the concentration last night to fire off all 10 shots without getting in a rush. As I said, I will test more on saturday and post some more pics.

I agree with this BUT it is not a 3-4 MOA gun either. If everything aligns then 1-1.5 MOA is achievable with regularity and 2 MOA is very achievable.

First off, sorry for the sh*tty pic. EDIT : and ib4 "three shot groups don't show sh*t" ;)

Now this isn't always what happens, but this is a three shot group, of handloads. I don't claim that this is always repeatable, but I believe it shows that the xcr can do something right.
Now the group above and to the left, shows what happens when things go wrong.

50gr Varmint grenades
26.5 of Varget
federal primer
1f winchester brass

Out of my xcr 18.6 barrel with pws triad
bushnell fixed 10x40 mounted on larue
Cheap bags, front and back
with an ar 6 pos stock.

my gas block was turned off to check brass for signs of hot loads.

Check and make sure everything is tight
Gas block screw on the bottom of it.
Barrel Retainer
Check your gas block setting
Check sight tightness

I hunt = 3 shot groups with my 6.8SPC are all I ever need...

I very rarely if ever take two shots on game so really one shot groups would work for me...

:p

As long as the first one goes where you want it, shouldn't need more..

I can't wait to get out and see what the 6.8 can do with handloads...

Well, spend about two hours at the pit tonight, playin with the M4, little ladys 10/22 and the XCR with the remaining box's of federal ammo. I will post the pics later on, gotta get them off the wifes Iphone.
so first, I gotta thank everyone for the help so far. Good tips and so far no XCR bashing. As a hunter I also agree that one shot does the trick most times. Im using ten shot groups to get an idea of whats really going on. I didnt know that the gas block could come loose so I will check that tonight. I've been runing with the gas setting on one, it has no issues with ejection or feeding and flings the brass in the same general area.
thanks for the help so far
