Well I have come to a point where I need to buy a couple more guns or one serious one. I have my eye on the XCR in 6.8. it is legal to hunt with that round here so that is a requirement, what is the accuracy of the 6.8 though?? I have read the charts and what not but does anyone have the xcr or another gun here in that caliber that can comment on it?? I was considering a couple other guns but the caliber is cheaper to shoot but not hunting legal here. Is the XCR also acurate enough with this cartridge to use for longer range and hunting?? I am looking for comments on the caliber as I like the gun enough to buy already. I have 3 short range hunting guns but I need a mid range to long range gun and think this could be it. I love tactical and semi auto so the gun seems perfect. All comments needed and appreciated on the caliber guys!!!!!!

Got an XCR in 6.8.. I love it... working up a load for some different 130gr loads for hunting as I want to take it this fall. Anything over .23 cal in SK is legal for hunting. 6.8 is .27 cal so your good.

Nothing wrong with 6.8SPC, I perfered 270win those, the 2 bullet that are accurate for target and also Hunting would be the Hornady interbond 130grain ,and also Barned TSX 130grain, quite pricy but very accurate for that caliber. in 270win, 1-10twist would be optimum, very flat round ~3000fps. If You love long range, suggest go with 270win.

So what kind of consistency and groups were you getting on factory loads?? Am I right in thinking is is capable of taking elk and moose with good shot placement?? Is the recoil as minimal as I have read??Thanks for the reply!!!!!!!!!

6.8 brass and ammo is VERY difficult and expensive to get in Canada. Then you are gonna run that in a semi-auto which will throw those difficult to source and expensive cases into the grass. That sounds like fun .....

I will be reloading and I have a source for factory ammo as well. Finding brass at the range with teh concrete pad and non exisitent grass is also a non issue. I have already done me leg work on feeding the hungry semi auto I just want to make sure the round itsself will cover the area I am concerned with.

Drewz - have you considered 7.62x39mm? You can get the XCR in this calibre and I have heard of people hunting deer using SKS and CZ 858 rifles. It may not be recommended for long range shooting but if your hunting long I'd go with a scoped bolt action rifle in a more appropriate calibre say .270, .308 or 300WM.

At the range, if I am worried about my brass, I just turn off the gas and cycle the bolt by hand. The XCR is a great, versatile gun.

I have 3 guns in 7.62x39 already that are great for short to 175 yard. I want a tactical semi auto with a usable hunting round. TO get more gun time I would get the 7.62x39 barrel kit to convert it for volume shooting if I love the gun that much since I am going to develop a load for them as well. I am not anti bolt action but am a semi auto guy and have had great success with teh smaller calibers and want to move up. The 6.8 is a 270 basically so its ballistics are pretty good but I was just looking for info on first hand experiences from people that shoot it and not just read about it like me.

No screaming hell with Factory Remington MATCH... about 2" at 100m.. hence the Handloads... havent been able to get any other factory ammo to try as of yet.

So far the handloads are at about 1" to 1 1/2" but I know I can work them down smaller. In the process of that now....

Every time you shoot the 6.8 you are going to have to be worried about brass because the stuff is so hard to come by. So that means you purchased a straight pull manual rifle cause you are gonna want to save that brass every time you pull the trigger. One would think it would have been more cost effective to have purchased a bolt gun.

thought about Getting one of those 6.8SPC and reamed out to 270win, and headspace to a Long action.

That post makes about as much sense as ......

BUY A BRASS CATCHER

I bought a 3bucc brass catcher for my XCR so that I don't lose any of my brass. It's saved me time and money. I highly recommend you buy a quality brass catcher for 6.8 brass since it's more difficult to get. I haven't used my XCR for hunting yet but the XCR is more than accurate enough for hunting purposes. I would estimate that my XCR is about a 2-3 MOA rifle.

Drewz, I am getting five rounds under an inch using factory Hornady 110 gr. V-max, shot with a 14.5" Noveske, with a warm barrel, on a rest at 100m. That's repeatable, not a fluke.

I also have a 20" remington 700. I'm getting slightly larger groups (say 1.5") with the same ammo, but I am still learning to shoot it and I am sure i can get it tighter. That's also with a warm barrel. From a cold barrel, the first shot is 2.5" high, the second shot is 2" high and from the third shot on they are all in the POA. I am told the Remington would do even better with 130gr, but i am not into load development yet.

All this to say, if you want to get into 6.8, you should go right ahead. No point in spending $3k on a rifle and be worried about the cost of your ammo.

Thanks HP and Pac, that is the kind of info I was looking at. I have heard they are pulling bolt action type accuracy but wanted real feedback and not just 3rd party information. Looks like she is my next major purchase then!!!!!!!!
