XCR-L 6.8 SPC 110gr Sierra Prohunter Range Report

Here are some pictures of some bullets that are available for the 6.8 and especially the new Barnes 95gr TTSX that are specifically designed for the 6.8spc and will open up to as low as 1600fps.

I had ToddBartell of Omineca Sports bring in 3 boxes of the 95gr TTSX for me to try out he's just waiting for some other components to arrive and he will ship them to me he's also including a box of the 110gr TSX to try.

I can hardly wait... :D

What I have noticed about my 6.8 C-Products mags are, yes 5 rounds fit perfectly but when I try to seat a loaded mag on a closed bolt it fits so tight that I can hardly lock it into place or pull the bolt/charging handle back.

I just pulled one of the mags apart looks like I can snip/cut 1 - 2 spring coils off that should give it enough room to fit properly with a closed bolt but still only allow 5 rounds.

edit to add...

Just snipped off 1 coil it now works perfectly...

:D

I had to cut 4 coils in order for my 6.8 mag to hold 5 rounds and function. ;)

Here is a picture of my 95gr TTSX from what I understand they are the first ones to be imported into Canada should have them later next week... :D

Just spent the last 2 1/2 days out with my little guy black bear hunting couldn't get within 125 yards of any of the bears we saw so didn't shoot when I get these loaded and they shoot as accurately as I am hoping I should be able to reach out to 300 yards.

Awesome, are you going to load these with the H322?

How much roughly are a box of the Barnes?

Yes I'll be using H322 but from what I am hearing RL10X is the powder of choice I have H322 and I don't have 10X so the choice is easy & I'm using C-Products mags...

From HTR on 68forum.com he is one of the guys that worked with Barnes to get the 95TTSX designed and tested.

For the 95 TTSX, we are getting good results with 29.5, 29.8 and 30 grains of 10X, loaded to 2.295 or 2.305" but you will need PRI mags for that length and of course, you will have to work up to that 30 gr load as it is essentially MAX.

Just had a pm sent to me saying that with a 6.8spc spec 11 chamber 1-11" barrel twist rate barrel 29.5grs H322 is about the best/top load for the 95gr TTSX don't think you can get any more powder than that into this little case.

Finally the 95gr TTSX arrived this morning so having everything ready I did a few loads up with H322 powder and headed to the range.

From what I am told by Barnes these are the very first 95gr TTSX imported into Canada...

18.6" Robinson Arms XCR-L in 6.8spc 1-11" twist rate spc 11 chamber +

95gr TTSX + Rem brass + Win LR primers + Lee factory crimp die 1/4 turn adjustment + COL 2.2940"

29gr H322 = 2765fps = 1 1/2" 100 yard groups

29.5grs H322 = 2790fps = 2" 100 yard groups

30grs = top load = 2825fps = 3/4" 100 yard groups = 2" - 2 1/2" 200 yard groups = just starting to see signs of swipes on a few cases.

Tried my last 3 rounds @ 300 yards just to get the drop so fired 1 round each with a different sight hold after each shot.

Shot 1 = low 3" right 2 1/2"

Shot 2 aimed higher = high 4" right 2 1/2"

Shot 3 aimed between the first 2 = high 3/4" right 2 1/2"

Ok so I have it figured out now so when I got back home I loaded up the remaining brass I had ready and will be leaving in the morning for a black bear hunt with my 3 year old son...

:D

Was out in the bush hunting black bear for six days came home Tuesday June 8 while I was out I was able to set up and shoot the 95gr TTSX a fair bit even shot out to 331 yards.

I was a bit surprised to see that I was able to get several 4" 3 shot 331 yard groups which as far as I am concerned is awesome for this rifle/cartridge/bullet combo.

I'm liking this set up so much now that I am starting to think about selling my 223 conversion kit because I can't see swapping back to it the 6.8 as far as I am concerned is good for coyotes to deer/black bear which is why I wanted this rifle in the first place.
