XCR-L 7.62x39 Pistol Mags: 13x 5.56mm

Really have to be careful with any 5.56 marked followers in a 7.62 x 39, it is in the modifying mag to a prohibited item territory, even with a un-marked follower if you have to go to court and they pop open the mag and compare your follower to a OEM follower with the distinctive long and short leg extensions, more than likely you will not be a happy camper.

The convenience of a pistol mag we enjoy only applies to a OEM pistol mag, as soon as you start changing it, doesn't matter what the label on the outside says, you are treading on very slippery grounds.

I agree. The only point I was trying to make is that the XCR-L magazines don't have an OEM follower, either (the front posts have been clearly cut and the manufacturer markings on the front lip have been melted).

As I indicated, I got these with the express purpose of running them for my 6.8SPC - and they work flawlessly in that capacity. I was just understandably curious if they would also work unmodified with 5.56mm. They do, although I think the reliability is suspect.

So mine look like this.

Don't really get how to put it in backwards without cutting off these tabs?

This is mine with the RA mags and coupler (Macgyver style):

Slide it on first to verify the angle is correct before cutting anything off... This is mine with the RA mags and coupler (Macgyver style):

I still don't see what you did with the tabs at the thicker end of the wedge (since they're angled). You alluded to 'cutting', so I'm assuming you either trimmed or otherwise filed these down.

Your coupler appears to be like the one on my RRA mags. The one in my picture came with the RA mags I got from Wolverine.

I'm using the aluminium ones from Dlask, so they tend to be a bit more snug. I do like the added weight, though - and again, I kind of favour the 'stealth' look. ;)

The modification I like the best is installing the Magpul L-plates on the single XCR-L magazines, even though this reduces capacity by a round. The thick rubber base absorbs any impacts from dropping, and it also gives a nice surface for grasping or slamming the magazine home.

For those that couple their magazines, I recommend the
Tapco covers to protect the feed lips on the bottom.

No cutting & no filing. I just slid the mag on from the thick end first so the tabs are actually inside the mag.

So did a little experiment. And building on my earlier pic.
Slid it in with little "ears" intact.
-seems ok.
-angles look like they should line up.
-doesn't go in far enough.

Cutting and smoothing
-cutting time
-the poly is extremely easy to cut on mine.
-knife easily sliced off what remained and made it smooth.

These little tabs at the front keep it from over shooting the mag

Now I'll see what I can do about keeping them from backing out the other way, but tbh they aren't any less secure than original. These poly couplers don't seem that well designed. I'll likely end up doing what AWOL did with the screw, but slipping it in the little space doesn't seem that easy. Also I don't seem to have as much real estate as that coupler for a screw.

All in all thanks for the idea AWOL, it looks a tonne better.

Looks great. I knew you could do it. Keeping it on should be easy. Try some red loctite in the slot, your XCR will not be offended...
