Hi
I am new to CGN (even i get my PAL over 12 years)and also new to XCR

now I am trying to buy a used XCR 223
My question is
is newer production better?
Or with newer trigger group it will fix the problem?

Now I found a older (3years) production XCR with lower
Shot count (800) with new trigger group
and a newer production XCR (1-1.5 year)
But way more shot count (5000-6000) but have all new
Trigger group piston changed

Hopefully someone can give me some idea to make right choice

New is not necessarily better, but it's usually the case.

New revisions of the XCR-L feature:

Ambi mag release
Ambi safety (very early revision)
New bolt (.223 only, early revision)
Improved bolt hold-open
Improved trigger
Improved (toolless) gas system
FAST stock (vs. fixed/folding skeleton stock)
MI BUIS (may or may not be included in your deal)
Larger hinge angle when upper/lower are opened
Picatinny rails without centres milled away
Different flash hider
Integrated trigger guard
"XCR-L" printed on right side of magwell

That's all I can think of right now, I don't know when the revisions were made or in what order, but I know the picatinny rails are the easiest way to visually determine a "new" (made within the last year-ish) XCR from an older one. I think the ambi mag release comes standard on the latest revision model, along with FAST stock and all above changes.

Obviously, anything that's "improved" was improved for a reason, new BHO is more durable and has a larger area where it engages the bolt, new trigger is lighter, gas system is hand adjustable.

The benefits of other changes are dependent on personal preference. All new parts can be bought and put on an old rifle but it may cost you more than just buying a new rifle outright.

I have one a rifle that is one of the earlier model and Micro pistol that is a recent production. Nothing has fail on either one of them so far, the new trigger is definitely nicer than the old one.

as between the two choices only thing I have to say is that like buying every things else it is not the mileage, but how it was maintained.

both rifle are well broken in any defective part that is going break would have broken down already, so both has the equal chances of something breaking from now on. keep in mind it is a mechanical thing that is subject to lot of stress, parts will wear down and break, it is just a matter of time.

what ever rifle you decide, make sure you read the user manual, inspect everything closely and make all is tight, learn how to hand torque the bolts or use loctite if you are afraid you might break something, the rifle will serve your purpose for a long time.
