Iv decided I need a 556. I found a good source of ammo and fell in love with the "manual of arms" of the ar and its wonky charging handle.
I want it to be NR.
I would like AR parts compatible and take stanag mags.

But i dont know what to go with. I currently have an XCR in x39 so i could just get a caliber conversion which come in wyld. If those exist anymore? But it might cost close enough to just getting a new rifle

So what should i do? What would you do?

Get one of the NR non AR black rifles that have all of the ergonomics of an AR like the SLR, PAR or Modern Varmint/Sporter rifles. All of the mentioned offerings will take most, but not all AR15 hardware.

Between the choices you put in title, i would go with a barrel, bolt, brass deflector for your xcr. It would be cheaper and when you go to the range it will fit in your gun bag/case with your current xcr in 7.62. Plus it gives you flexibility at the range to change calibers quickly. There are some kit right now on EE for cheap.

Alberta tacticals modern sportster is as close as it gets. They changed the takedown pin so it's permanent and the receiver needs to slide forward instead of pivot. It's basically %99.99 ar-15

Out of your choice of options the only one that will get you shooting right away is the caliber conversion for the XCR-L.

If you're ok with waiting it out you're best route is to build whatever you prefer on a NR receiver set.

Also I own both Maccabee and ATRS products and my vote goes to buying the ATRS

I think you are talking about the MD SLR. I believe the ATRS uses take down pins front and back and pivots like a AR

The ATRS Modern Sporter or for that matter any of their Modern series of rifles do NOT pivot on the front TD pin. All slide forward a little bit to disengage from the lower, hence not being classified as an AR variant. Not a big deal in my opinion but worth the NR status if that is what it takes. I can't remeber the last time I had to open up any of my AR's in the field and for cleaning I take the upper off of the lower anyway.

I too had a Crapabee SLR and ditched it once I found that many of the parts would not fit without copiuos amounts of dremelogy, the finish was poor at best and the cheap helicoil that was poorly installed as a manner to keep the upper attached to the lower with a bolt was a total turn off for me.
The quality of the Modern Hunter, Modern Varmint and so far the Modern Sporter has been first class. The Hunter and Varmint came prebuilt but so far everything I have tried to fit into my Sporter lower fits with ZERO modification required either to the part or the lower. Now if only the uppers were ready I could be out making dead coyotes.

I never found my XCR-L to be all that accurate and BCL, well lets just say nuff said. They have not changed much if at all since they were NEA.

Is there any video to show how the ATRS modern sporter receiver or complete rifle in action,?

Had BCL102 before and got rid of it and bought a Stag10 for the exact reason but would love to built a modern sporter in 450 Bushmaster wants to see what AR parts will fit on to it.

Alright guys, thanks for the help. I can see clearly now. Your saying, get the conversion for the XCR, AND build myself a Modern Sporter. Welp, time to tell the wife. Maybe i can convince her SHE wants one...

Thanks for your guidance

Own a XCR-L before and I have to agree the ergonomics is exc compared to the ar.

However, it is a heavy gun ( never handle a light barrel ) it does feel like a solid piece of equipment and accuracy was not bad (had both 5.56 and 6.8 ) but I ended up sold it due to lack of being use in the field due to weight.

I am hoping the modern sporter in the caliber I want won't be too too heavy otherwise I might as well just take the Stag 10 out.

Thank you for your post.

Yes that is the only video I have found as well and other than some pics posted by ATRS.

Anybody know if the ejection port need to be open up for 450BM or 458socom?

The ejection port opening on the Modern Sporter is supposed to accomodate up to 50 Beowulf, I asked about the big bore options and was told they have taken this into account.
