This was unexpected. Gonna hurt the pocket more than it did my face and hand. Racked the charging handle and she went boom, startled the hell out of me. Yay for safety glasses.

Upper, bolt and bolt carrier fukd.

Iron can be purchased again. Can't buy new eyes or fingers. I'm glad your ok. You can always restock your bank rool. I witnessed a similar incident over seas while serving and the individual was not as luck as you.

Reloads. Once fired winchester brass. 23gr Benchmark under a 62gr fowler match hp With wincheser primers. Not a hot load, I've loaded and shot many of these. It was a fresh mag, it cooked off as it was stripped from the mag as best I can tell. Chamber was empty, I assume the firing pin must have been stuck forward. Lots of rounds through this gun, never had an issue.

I had the same thing happen to me with my RA XCR-L 223. out of battery. round went off and sounded weird. got some powder burn on my face but other than that no damage. destroyed the extractor. took it in to Wolverine and they repaired it for me. I was shooting winchester whitebox 223 ammo.

I assume the firing pin must have been stuck forward.
I'm hoping you're not one of these guys who never cleans his BCG because it's cool not to clean your rifle.
I'm betting Woverine hooks you up on parts/repairs.

Ooh man that sux! Glad to hear you didnt end up hurt! Was it the older model or gen 2 keymod version?

Nasty and scary! Glad to hear you are well! Having a rifle explode on you is not a fun experience, I know.
x2, horrible experience.

So, what's the verdict then? Needed a cleaning? Harder primers?
What's left of the case looks like it has a perfect primer strike. How does that happen, slam fire?

It's good to hear there we no injuries except to you wallet.
I have to assume that the firing pin was stuck forward and the primers that you use are "soft".
There is no other reasonable explanation...
