Hello GunNutters,

I recently picked up the latest Gen used XCR-L in 5.56/.223. I noticed a pretty big issue with the QD receiver that is machined into the bottom of the FAST stock hinge. It appears as though the machinist at Rob Arms was having a bad day and didn't fully cut the shoulder in which locks the "ball bearings" of the male portion.

This essentially renders this useless as the sling swivel can easily be pulled out when rotated. Even with the "ball bearings" in the deepest part of the "groove" it can still be yanked out with a moderate amount of force. A search of the forum and google hasn't come up with anyone else experiencing this issue

Pics show this nicely. I have initiated contact with Rob Arms. No reply as of yet.

For reference, this is my keymod QD adaptor. The groove should be deep and cut symmetrically.

The RobArms one is a limited rotation QD socket, many on the market are similar however if the socket isn't machined 100% to spec or the QD sling point isn't a proper mil spec one it may slip.

The ball bearings in the QD mount shouldn't be able to get pushed back in unless the spring keeping the button up is weak or it's out of spec.

Have you tried another QD point to see if repeats the problem? Like the Viking Tactics/Mesa Tactical ones etc...?

ahh ic! I was unaware some were cut like that.

I still believe there is an issue. Ive tried a couple different QD studs and the same thing happened. Rob arms directed me to Wolverine, just awaiting a response.

I am having this same issue. I QD Swivel that I used was a cheaper UTG one. I have a magpul QD swivel on the way from Canada Ammo and will post when I get it.

Any word back from Wolverine Supplies yet?

I believe I got the UTG swivel as well off amazon.ca. I'm on holidays visiting family and none of the local stores stock these QD swivels.

Messing around with the swivel, when I insert it into the Qd receiver on the hinge it's like the ball bearings aren't able to fully extend (which would lock them and not allow them to be compressed)

Not sure if this is a problem with the UTG QD swivel or if the receiver was under cut from factory.

Edit: Yes, wolverine gave me an RA# for me to send them the stock hinge and they would repair/replace as required. I'll be driving past them on my way back out west in the new year, so I'll just stop by in person.

I would seriously try out a good quality QD swivel though, I have seen a few issues with the less expensive ones (mostly Uncle Mike) and if that's all the issue is, then it's a super easy fix!

Update-

Wolverine Supplies was closed for the holidays on the day I was driving through so I didn't drop off the stock hinge. I decided to check some local stores for high quality QDs. Phoenix Range here in Edmonton had Magpul QD's. The "lower end" magpul QD behaved the exact same way as the cheapo I got off Amazon ("ball bearings" aren't able to fully "extend" therefor not locking in place).

I tried the higher end Magpul QD ($39.99) and it worked perfectly. It seems to have a more positive locking design. I do like the design of it better than the standard single button. Seems like the normal ones are way to easy to release and could be done accidentally.

I have complete faith in Wolverine Supplies customer service, as Ive always heard nothing but fantastic reviews from this forum; however I'm not going to send the stock hinge to get looked at. I'd rather not deal with the hassle of mailing that piece in and have my rifle non functional for weeks. I've found something that work, although not the cheapest route, so Im satisfied.

Hopefully this thread will help out anyone else who experiences this issue. Yes, I do still believe my QD receiver was slightly undercut from factory, but I'm not overly worried.

Cheers CGN!

Mine is the exact same way and I've gone with the exact same solution that you have as well. So far, so good, but it's only been a week.
