So I just recently purchased a new to me xcr-l in 223, or 5.56, or whatever it is. All in black with quad rail. Finally had some time where the family was happy doing their own things for a while and I was able to make a trip to the range.

Accuracy is about what I expected, but not the fun factor. This thing is a hoot to shoot. Just awesome. Ergonomics are great and the fast stock is great with a scope. Trigger is also a very nice 2 stage. Best of all its non restricted! Look out coyotes! To have this much fun and hunt with it is going to be great!

Sorry for my little happy rant, but I had to share!

Wish I had the keymod with light barrel. The quad rail, heavy barrel is front heavy. But yeah, what a hoot to shoot. Use my x39 more than 223.

Why do most people prefer the light barrel over the heavy, is it a pain to tote around all day or is accuracy affected by being to heavy forward. Wouldn't the heavy barrel be good for a dedicated sitting on the stand gun?

No issue if you are sitting in your stand. The issue is the 4 mile walk to and back from your stand! As a hunting gun, you're not firing so many rounds that a heavy barrel will make any difference and the XCR, even with the HB, is not a dedicated 1-2MOA gun anyways.
The light barrel and Keymod makes a HUGE difference if you're lugging it all day.

We have only ONE guy run the XCR like a champ at TAC rifle. His is in x39. However, he also recently switched to the AR platform.

The rifle is a fun plinker and game getter when set up right. Enjoy your gun, OP!

I haven't shot competitively in a few years, but when I was doing tac rifle, you're right, I don't think I ever saw anyone using an XCR. I was more thinking IF you wanted a rifle you could use for that kind of unsupported dynamic shooting, rather than just from a bench, an XCR HBAR wouldn't work nearly as well as a light-barrel keymod.

I'll have to bring my XCR-M compact out one day and try it. I used to use an AR, and brought a Tavor out once. These matches still happening at TMSA?

Yup! As of last year, also at Chilliwack. It's under the DSSmatch umbrella now. Check out my sigline for the link to the website.
TMSA runs TAC rifle like IPSC where speed is king whereas Chilliwack is more IDPA style as the bays are smaller and tighter.
The compact M would be nice! You have 10 rounders, right? Round count is around 150 usually for 5 stages.

Yep, I've got 10-rounders for the XCR-M. I'm sure I'd be more competitive with an AR, but .308 would be fun! Might try out a match at Chilliwack - can't run much as I crashed a motorcycle and messed up a knee a couple years ago, so smaller/tighter stages would be a good thing.

I just wiped about 6 months of dust off my XCR, took her for a NewYears shoot. Swapped to a skinny barrel and running without a break. Fired a few hundred rounds and the love affair continues.
I was gifted a new barrel and 1,200 rounds, from one of our own. Thanks again N.
