XCR-L vs. XCR-M

Newbie here,

I have searched the forums for this question but have not been able to find an answer...hopefully not due to my incompetent searching abilities : ) I am currently shooting a Benelli R1 chambered in 270WSM but not overly happy with the accuracy. I do not need a tack driver but would like a gun I can have confidence in. XCR looks like it would be a fun gun for the range outside of hunting season and an ok deer/elk gun for hunting season.

Wondering want you all think is the better way to go with the XCR and why. Should i purchase the XCR-L changed over to 308 or just go straight for the XCR-M. Is there accuracy differences between the two rifles? Just looking for pros and cons of each platform. I will be mainly deer and elk hunting in Northern Alberta so I will likely keep the gun I decide on in 308.

The 6.8 would be fine for deer but I wouldn't hunt elk with a 90-115gr bullet. Especially not if the shooter is not very experienced. It would take excellent shot placement to ensure a quick and humane kill on an animal that large with such a tiny bullet.
If you plan on hunting anything larger than deer then get the M.

According to a reliable source there will be an XCR-M pistol coming soon which will mean 10 round 308 mags :D
 
Thank you all very much...what is the general MOA a person would expect to see at 200y with the M? I'm sure it's better than my R1 lol

The accuracy of the XCR's is typically around 2moa if you do some trial and error with a bunch of different cartridges and figure out what the barrel likes.
MOA is MOA, doesn't matter the distance, you will see around 2 inch at 100yds and 4 inch at 200yds etc. The XCR-M I shot was doing around 4 MOA at 200yds with cheap FMJ, I'm sure it could have done better with decent ammo.
Keep in mind the accuracy reports are from guys shooting off sandbags at the range, chances are you won't see shots like that in a hunting environment. This is why I would go with the M if you plan to hunt with it, the extra power will help make up for a less than perfect shot.

I hope the magazines will feed better than the factory 5 rounders.

Let's hope so. I doubt magpul will be jumping in.
Lets just hope some day we win the battle to have our retarded magazine limit laws abolished. They only limit the law abiding and do nothing to make anything or anyone safer.

This is so true

I would assume a 10 round pistol mag designed for a .308 pistol would be made by the same people that make the 7.62x39 XCR Micro Pistol magazines. I have always had great luck with those magazines.

It has taken nearly two years but finally Rob Arms have finished the .308 XCR-M Mini pistol with 13 inch barrel and the XCR-M Micro pistol with 9.5 inch barrel. We have taken delivery of samples and our initial results show these girls are a lot of fun and perform great.

We have placed an initial order for Micro pistols with the 9.5 inch barrel. We intend to order all of these with the new Keymod forearm. These will be supplied with no butt stock but all the normal XCR-L and XCR-M butt stocks and butt adapters will fit.

Currently we do not have any 10rd .308 pistol mags. Now we have a pistol we need a manufacture for new pistol mags. We are talking to one manufacture but it is too early to know what will develop, I would like to see a new designed steel mag with enhanced type anti tilt follower.

Prices will follow ASAP.

We all know the XCR won't do 1 1/4 MOA 5 shot groups repetitively. That's why I always ask guys who claim it I want to see 5 shot groups without 5 minute breaks between shots and a few groups on the same paper. No one has ever done it. I've given up and don't really care anymore. It really doesn't matter when we talk about using it for hunting anyway since there is no shooting bench and sandbags out in the bush. It's a minute of whitetail rifle. If you want sub MOA then buy a Remington or Savage bolt action for $700.

Maybe this guy has the one in a million rifle though ;)

I'm not bashing on the xcr-m, it's great for what it is.
I get riled up about these misleading claims though.
Some poor noob is going to read stuff like that, save up his pennies to buy the pricey rifle, and then spend a year beating himself up about how he can't get very good groups out of it, but he knows it's a 1.25 moa rifle, cause he read it on the internet...
