So I did some testing with my XCR-M, after not being particularly impressed with it the last time I brought it out. The last time I used it, I had one FTE after another - as well as particularly poor accuracy.

This time, I made a point to lube it well. It cycled fine on gas setting 5, but produced the consistent vertical strings of shots which are evident in the picture. It cycled the bolt alright when I changed it to gas setting 4 but extraction wasn't as positive as I was hoping for. The rounds trickle out and flip about 2 feet away. The bolt won't cycle fully on gas setting 3.

The tighter groups were shot (on gas setting 4) with a mix of factory hornady (match and TAP) in 168 and 155 grains respectively. As well as my own reloads, which are using 175 gr SMK.

The black patches are 1", for reference. Tightest groups, with my reloads, were 1.5" centre to centre.

So what is going on with my extraction issues, and can I squeeze any more accuracy out of it than this?

Edited to add that these shots were taken off of a bipod at 100 M.

My functions great on the lowest gas setting (I think that is setting one). Similar accuracy. You shouldn't have to crank up your gas setting to be getting good extraction. Something just isn't right there. Did you break it in using the routine suggested in the manual? Sorry if that is a dumb question.

I did follow the break in as per the manual. And I have 550 rounds through it, at this point. Also, I meant to say that it would not cycle positively on gas setting 3. Just on 4 and 5.

That just shouldn't be. I think you may want to talk to Wolverine and perhaps send it in. That should function on the lowest setting without issue.

you know that xcr dont have a no 5 gaz setting but that an S for suppressor so that normal if it didn't cycle .... and i doubt that the xcr-m differ than the xcr-l

my xcr-l was cycling the sellier bellot surplus at setting 1 when i got it ,

myabe you need to lube a little your M

Mine throws brass 40 feet away on the highest setting and could probably repulse a flanking zombie attack! Maybe there is something amiss with your gas system?

Yep S for suppressor. Sort of looks like a 5 lol. Also what kind of powder you using for reloads? Some factory ammo doesn't work in semi autos, not familiar with tac, however any 7.62x51 nato ammo runs ok in mine. Privi has nice brass to reload too.

I should say +, as opposed to 5. It does cycle on +, as well as 4. Not on 3, or anything lower than that. I'm aware that S is the lowest gas setting.

The weapon was well lubricated.

My reloads are done with BR2 primers, Lapua Brass, and 43.2 gr of Varget.

I'm thinking that there is something messed up with the gas system, if other people aren't having trouble with extraction/bolt cycling like this. It sort of sucks that the XCR-M seems to have a unique personality, in so many cases.

maybe you should try a different powder , i can remember how fast the varget burn but it might be your cause , try with a different powder or build a different box just to check

Have you disassembled and put back together the whole gun? That's what I would do first, particularly with the barrel and gas system. Take the barrel off, put it back on and torque to spec.

As for your gas selector, I'm fairly sure that Robinsons QC on those gas ports is probably wacky. Just because the numbers on yours are the same as on other rifles doesn't mean the ports themselves are identical... so you're left wondering. Perhaps index them yourself to ensure that they're actually properly sized. Also make sure its not gummed up.

Be VERY careful with BR2 primers, they are too soft for the XCRs floating firing pin.....ask me how I know about soft primers and these guns..
