I am not sure what has been the subject of this dispute. I can say however that US patent laws are now a farce. There are so many "ideas" patented that the possibility of unintentional patent infringement is very high to the point where there are companies that buy up patents and wait for the infringements to happen.
Not only that, but there are only so many ways to do things on firearms. Previous art can cover so much territory and make "the obvious" and non innovative protected. I have seen it in real life and it can be very confusing and frustrating. I feel for RA's owner. But deal with it in the courts.

I can pretty much say Magpul and Remington's Lawyer's never thought for a minute that RA's patent request would be approved .I am sure if look at firearms history in the 20 century there are simular examples of many different bolt hold open devices and the FN FAL is verr simular in operation
If you can say that, you need to take a refresher in patent law. A design change which is incremental can be patented. In this case, the FN's device is only on one side (the left), and is not in the same position, so it cannot be operated by the user while in a ready to shoot position. The RA one can, which is why they patented it.
Make no mistake, Magpul and remington will lose this case, or will settle out of court.
So Paul have you even seen the FN FAL bolt release ???? so if FN had turned the bolt release so it faced the towards the trigger them RA would have notbeen issued a patent.
I find it amazing the HK XM 8; uses the a very simular bolt release as the RA XCR in it's
design and function ,I guess we will agree on one thing that RA has not done any actual destructive testing of it's firearms and that RA uses it's customers as part of it's testing procedures and thru there experiences and problems encountered with thier high quiality firerarms is the only way RA knows that it has problems !!!! Sounds like a proactive and quaility orentated firearms manufacturer---NOT

Savage is right, I like RA but they have been trying to pass their-selves off as a "Proven Combat Ready" "Next Generation Service Rifle" outfit. They are far from it and are not big enough to have the money to do proper quality control...testing...evaluations...ect...ect...ect.
Lets like them for what they are, cool design, non-restricted, cheap (maybe not so much in Canada), entry level range use, plinking gun company. Not a "Cutting Edge Combat Proven Rifle Company".

and I couldn't care less if anything RA has developed looks like anything else if they have a a patent on it that is all that matters.

Newly imported designs however might very well go the way of the Type 97...

Yeah they would need to pass an OIC to re-classify any gun as restricted by name. If Henderson goes anywhere (haven't heard anything about it for a while) then the RCMP need to prove that a firearm is mechanically a derivative of an existing gun, not just based on looks, even though the XCR doesn't look like an AR at all, its mechanically VERY different so they couldn't "try" that either.
Of course this is all based of theory, the RCMP could TRY anything they wanted to... but thats for another thread.
The XCR might not be a perfect rifle, but honestly its pretty decent for such a new gun.
Even the G36 had issues, and the German gov. spent MILLIONS on its R&D, same deal with the XM8 and the AR15 in its inception. Anybody that buys a first gen gun (even like the ACR/Masada) needs to understand they are getting an un tested product.
It's worse than that, XCR was inspired by AK internals
