SO I've done a good amount of shooting with the XCR-m I picked up in ontario from another CGNer.

I've decided, this is my semi auto .308. I've extensively run the M14 platform, the Famea 542 and the RFB. all of them had their own sets of issues and failed to do what i wanted.

The XCR-m with the cheapest of the cheap ammo it gives decent results, with a slow fire string of norinco in light wind using a 2-7 burris ERB1 scope I was able to put 6 out of 10 rounds on a 2/3 IPCC gong at 400m. with handloads it can put out sub moa groups.

Its reliable, I like the feel, parts are easy to obtain. The only down side is this thing is is heavy.... but I can fix that

So today step 1 is complete the side rails have been milled off and matching air vents added.

With the receiver mod done its off to be hydro dipped.

Step 2 will be locating a light barrel... or fluting the heavy barrel. with the weight dropped off the front its going to be exactly what i've been after for years.

I love it when a plan starts to come togeather

Could be interesting, looks good too. Great job matching the ports, shows some thought.

I've been wanting to shave my own XCR, not for weight but for sh!tz n giggles, just a new look I guess. I can't see how it would affect weight though. Yes it would weigh less, but is it noticable?

My other plan was to turn the barrel and cap the threads. I can't believe how heavy the brake is, the gun is noticeably more balanced just by taking the brake off. Mine is an L in x39, different animal than yours. Brake doesn't do much on mine.

Anyways, where do I send my upper and how long do you need it. ;)
I want 6 shaved too.

Titanium brake would be helpful and if going for accuracy I think fluting the barrel would be the better option to replacing with a lightweight.

How much lighter is it with the milled handguard?

I actually have a boss with a full workshop at home... I gave it to him on friday, he gave it back today. he can do keymod as well...

Also Samson X (listed as a friend on CGN) can do it as well, but he's busy with his outfitting company right now, tiss the season, you could send him a PM and see what he says.

Its cut a couple ounces off so far, if I flute the barrel (different coworker does it and has done a XCR barrels) it will drop another 1- 1.5 LB

I currently have a 20" barrel... If I can find a 18.5 L it would be ideal for hunting. keep the 20' as is for range days were im popping 200-300 rounds down range.

Another option would be to turn the barrel to a lighter profile. The 556 XCR light barrel is a pencil compared to the standard profile. You can shave more weight with the profile than by fluting but looks still count.

The light barrel is a lot less accurate compared to the heavy barrel?

Is that a statement or a question??? Lol

They are about the same, the only difference being groups open up a bit after 3 shots with the light barrel and after 7 to 10 with the heavy. I am not sure why every one needs a laser beam accurate rifle on here, it's just not realistic without some investment and modifications. I doubt most on here have the skill to make that accuracy necessary anyways.

I had an XCR-L with a HB and I can say that thing was really front heavy to the point of being annoying. I would say a light barrel or weight reduction on the barrel is a good idea (I assume the XCR-M would have similar balance). I could never get the XCR-L to print tight groups though....

Question I guess lol

There was a thread here saying that there is a huge difference between the light barrel and heavy barrel in term of accuracy... Especially after a few rounds.
