I previously did a range report for my own XCR-L .223, for which shooting worked-up reloads (worked up powder charge) we saw groups of 1MOA shot at 100 meters with a 3X scope. My brother just got an XCR-M in .308 with the heavy barrel, and so here is the result of our working up the load for it. First time shooting it as well actually, so, still breaking it in. Scope on it is the Vortex Viper 3-9X40. These groups you'll see below were shot at the Shooting Edge so only at 50m. We were going to sight-in & shoot 100m at Homestead but got out there and found that the public range has been closed - disappointed at first because it was a beautiful day, but then after being at the Edge realized we had a much better time than walking through garbage and having to call range cold with idiots still handling guns etc etc.

Load worked up is:
- new Winchester brass
- Hornady 168gr HP Match
- CCI 200 primer
- Varget powder

Charges worked up are, on the target sheet:
39.9gr - upper left
40.6gr - upper right
41.3gr - center
42 - lower left
42.7 - lower right (max charge as per Hornady manual)

Fliers called by the shooter are circled in yellow:

We really liked the 42gr load as the two outliers were called by the shooter and the other 3 seem to have went in the same hole. We were wishing we had loaded more test loads in order to test that one over again. We were shooting with front support on the rifle only, with the butt-stock supported only by the shoulder. Could really see your heartbeat moving the cross-hair around the bullseye at 50m...did our best to shoot the way you're supposed to, so, we're quite happy with the way this gun shoots. With front and rear support shooting on a bench, those groups should be a little tighter, and you should be able to maintain 1MOA at 100m...especially if that 42gr load is consistent.

Awesome 308 to shoot. Kicks as much or possibly less than my XCR-L 223. Amazingly easy to shoot standing and stay on target.

Why is it always XCR shooters claiming their fliers were called, so they do not count?

Wish I could discount some of my shots to tighten up a group(s). If I'm trying to make a good group I count them all, because that's what I shot good or bad.
Whether it's the shooter or the rifle every shot should count (when trying to make groups), because the rifle and shooter together account for the accuracy that rifle is capable of producing with that shooter and that's what we're all aiming to know; the accuracy we can manage with a certain rifle.

How else will you know if your accuracy is improving. If you're only concerned with the rifles accuracy just put it in a sled.

When your XCR-L managed 1" groups at 100m were you discounting the fliers then too?

Try some #10 shot groups (say #5 x #10 shot groups) then over lap all the targets and that will tell you the true accuracy of the shooter and rifle(s).

Better yet try Trinimon's My Black Rifle Shoots Sub-MOA All Day Challenge.

Sorry, not trying to be negative towards your efforts, I appreciate you taking the time to post up your group... It's just so many times I've read the same reports and because it can really affect decisions others make to buy one rifle or another it's important to know what's what. Not saying MOA from a XCR isn't possible for say one #3 group, but when spending as much as $3,000+ on a rifle and then only being able to manage 2"-4" MOA with premium ammo. can really suck for someone expecting 1MOA.

I'm sure if RA XCR's were able to shoot MOA the company would be showing proof like SA or other companies do with their rifles.

Finally the last line is that a mistake? what did you mean the XCR-M .308 kicks less then the .223 XCR-L? Were you using a really good brake or?

Cheers D

Cool let us know what it does. I chose the 168gr bullet as I found other sites reporting that this was a "sweet spot" for bullet weight with their XCR-M's. And they did report sub-MOA with their own load.

We were shooting cheap 149gr stuff for breaking in and it was not as bad for us at that bullet weight as others had reported, but they would have been 2 to 3 MOA if shot at 100 meters.

I have found that reloads still perform much better than even "premium" ammo. So I just buy cheap stuff for plinking and everything else I reload.

I picked up a xcr-m last week my best groups have been with hornady steel match about 1.2" at 100y. And it seems to be very repeatable. .no flyers in the 5 groups I have shot...I have done a few reloads with 42g of varget, berger 168g Classic hunters where the best so fare..
