My first post LGR purchase.... XCR-M in Tan.

Bought directly from Wolverine...great company to deal with. Super quick & easy transaction.

This was this gun's maiden voyage. Same for the optic too.

I shot 5 rds of American Eagle, 150 gr FMJ-BT to sight in the new optic at 50 yds. The next 15 were shot @ 100 yds. Surprising results.

The next 60 rds were freshly rolled. I wanted to see which powder showed the best results. Once I settled on a powder, I will tweak the load to get the best results.

My loads:

Varget @ 45 gr x 20 rds
BLC-(2) @ 46 gr x 20 rds
H4895 @ 44 gr x 20rds

155 gr SIE HPBT
OAL @ 2.810"
CCI #200 primers
S&B Brass, tumbled & trimmed

First up were the Varget loads:

My conclusions:

I love this gun. Feels great. Recoil is very manageable. The adjustable LOP & cheek height are perfect.

As for functionality...I have the gas set as per the manufacturers recommendation. Brass gets thrown 20ft to the right. Some case necks were slightly deformed. Minor scratches to the case.

FTE & FTF: Experienced FTF x 2 & FTE x 2 with the American Eagle. None with the hand loads.

Trigger: Nice. Feels different than my XCR-L (7.62x39). No complaints so far.

Controls: Excellent.

Winning Powder: No clear winner at the moment. Before I focus on one propellant, I plan on doing lots more range testing. I will try some 168gr SIE HPBT next time.

Seems the first 3 rds shoot good, then #4 & #5 stretch the group out.

Overall Impressions: Positive. No complaints.

Upcoming Changes: Ergo grip & some PMAGS 20LR

I'm not sure I would bother working up a load until you get the gas system down to one. Otherwise thanks for the post. The XCR-M would be on my list if it wasn't for my Krieger barreled JAE stocked m14.

i wonder how many FTEs would be solved by the ejection port being a bit bigger, it looks like it would be a really close fit compared to any other .308 semi ive looked at

American Eagle ammo has always been ####ty.....I usually just use it for fouling shots after a clean....or let the range newbs use it.

That's really nice for shooting AE and working up loads... My -L easily shoots sub-moa once I got the load perfected.

Thanks for this post, very useful! I wish there were more out there. Keep them coming as you optimize the reload and get the gas setting reduced! Great stuff.

I have the same rig, no scope yet though. Do not like the mag at all. Really like how the recoil is strait back with very little muzzle rise. p-mags just arrived, just need to buy some time to shoot it.

I wish there would be more people sounding in with pics of their targets for comparative for consistency.

Soon, i've put 250rnds of Norinco(hot), MFS, and Privi down it so far with open sights, still can't lower the gas setting-except on the Norinco stuff. another 250-300rnds and I'll start reloading for it.

If its anything like the L then it will need some break in time before you can reduce your gas for less felt recoil. I'm waiting to hear how good it works for recoil control. From what everyone is saying, it seems to do pretty good on gas setting 4.

The L i have in 223/762x39 only needed 50 rnds and its been on setting 1 since. 3-4000 down it now. Love it. Yep DPMS-SR-25 mags for the M. Ordered mine from Canadian Tactical Cowboy, only place I could find that had them in stock.
