I would never buy a rifle that wasnt made in the USA. Especially not one made in a pussy European counrty like Switzerland. NO THANKS. I will stick with my M4, made in the USA. The XCR is not bad either, lets not forget whose design that is.

Yah stick with good old USA made stuff. Sure its assembled by mexicans and not all of them even test fire there product. Oh and have big warning markings on most of there guns for added beauty. Why buy swiss made?

There are so many U.S. manufacturers cashing in on these sentiments that whatever that says 'made in USA' is superior in quality. I think this is throwback to '50s era thinking of that Great American Nation state. They don't realize that America no longer produces anything, other than agriculture. America no longer possess industrial production capability of '40 and '50, and their capacity is embarassing compared to most of the third world nations. They made DESIGN them, but they can no longer produce them in America, whether due to shortage of technical expertise or economic viability.
But Americans are still attracted to everything that says 'made in USA.' Wonder how that will change when every american servicemen(women) are carrying foreign produced weapons, ie. FN SCAR.

No, what I was trying to say wasn't about some military manufacturing capacity. Americans won't allow third world countries to build those stuff even if they could, and I supect many countries in the world can do it, like India and Pakistan, although it will be on borrowed technology. I understand what you saying Greentip, but sadly those technology you mentioned, such as GEN 3+NVG, stealth technology, X-band radar, GPS satellites, were almost all of them designed and initialy made by Japanese manufacturers like Hitachi or Toshiba. There are numerous books on these subjects so I won't elaborate, but prime example is NORAD radar denfence system which was built with help of Japanese tech companies of names I can't remember at the moment. Yes America still has aerospace technology, but almost all of their technology has been smuggled out of America, and now countries like Japan and China are building their own versions of Russians and American fighters. These days if Beoing was to sell any planes in East Asia, they must fist deal in tech transfer such as wing manufacturing plant to be built in the country buying the plane. So maybe I should correct myself, ans say that Americans no longer possess exclusive manufacturing capacity. What they can make, others can now make better and cheaper. And it goes deeper with initial products manufacturing, such as being able to convert raw materials into products, which Americans are allowing other countries to do for them. American's religion, now is Stock Exchange and that's how they make money. Electronic money.
I know what people are saying about this, and who knows? Things might actually change for U.S. in this new and 'improved' American political environment...

I do apology for my earlier statement. Didn't want to cause controversy. Just wanted to give my observation about the world now.

I didn't just read that did I?

It will be intersting to see how China mess up world economy with their mega-consumption, which now they are saying within 2010, will surpass American rate of consumption. That's scary. Whoever gets to supply them the most might emerge as a next economic superpower.
Maybe the next century's American infantry weapons might come from China. Depressing...

Yes, Switzerland the pussy country who brought you an automatic weapon in every home, and more shooting ranges than Baghdad on a Saturday night.

The problem wiht owning a sig is finding ranges long enough to punch paper on - the latter is like vaporware...

The XCR is likely soon to be the exCR

I can't wait till Sunday !!!! me and my sig ALL DAY - I haven;t had a range day in over a month!!

Are there any company making tactical handguard for 550? I know B&T has ones for 551 and 552, but so far I haven't been able to fine any for 550. Would be kinda cool, like full railed handguard you see on M16s.

Dontcha just LOVE it when airsoft kids post?

Anyone who has ever shot/owned a Swiss rifle would never make such a comment...hell, anyone who has ever visited Switzerland wouldn't need more than 10 seconds to figure out why Hitler decided to pass on that invasion of Switzerland. When I was there, every single little pot-hole town or village had at least one shooting range, most had multiple ranges, plus a gunshop/gunsmith.

Target shooting is a national passion in Switzerland and they take pride in their marksmanship. You can see teenagers, Reg Force Swiss soldiers and little old ladies standing side by side on the firing line at any Swiss shooting range on the weekend, all competing equally, and some of those little old ladies can shoot the balls off a mosquito at 200M!:D

Whats wrong with a little bit of patriotic feeling?

I dont see why I should be made fun of for liking American made stuff (I am American/Canadian), even if I am new to all of this. You guys are all very mean! And I dont like the Swiss, I am entitled to that. Their damn cheese gives me rashes. I like M4's cause when I hold mine it makes me feel like I am in a movie possibly chasing an alien. You guys take yourselves too seriously, get a girlfriend or go drinking or something. TAKE A JOKE! I am sorry if I caused any of you to wet your bed because you were so unbearably upset!

And the delicious swiss chocolate makes you fat, right?
Probably you don't even like swiss army knife's, do you? ;)

I am old enough to know that I pissed everyone off and I will keep my mouth shut from now on. Swiss guns are the greatest, I am an #######, I am going to go now and pay a burly man to spank me for how bad I have been. Have a wonderful time shooting your wonderful weapons.

Your sarcasm aside the thing you didn't realize is the Swiss rifles are regarded very highly around here. We are more than lucky to have them on the Canadian market. Just down south these rifles can't be legally imported and those that are in circulation run $10,000+.

Visit an American gun board and tell them you'd rather have an American built AR15 over a $3000 Swiss Arms rifle and they'd think you were crazy.

If you ever get the chance to try one I recommend you do. They are quality built rifles. Very accurate, very nice trigger pull and very solidly built.

Why the hell would I want to buy a rifle marketed for the BMW crowd ?

Don't own a BMW, never going to. Similarily, while the Sigs are unquestionably fine rifles, I see no reason to pony up $3000 plus for a rifle before mags, ammo and support equipment, regardless of it's accuracy potential.

AR15 is a proven platform and at least XCR uses AR15 mags, so I'm somewhat interested. If I hit the lottery, I'd consider a Sig, but practicality dictates AR15's, and if they ever become available, XCR's.

But you guys who can afford them, go for it.

<Comfortable with my beer budget>
