I've got a Hi-Lux CMR 1-4 x 24. The rear bell measures 1.62" (42mm) in diameter and the scope cap on it makes it 1.78" (45.3 mm) in diameter. I currently have it mounted on the XCR with a Burris PEPR mount. The PEPR looks pretty cool but I've come to realize that with a full length rail I'm just adding extra weight to the rifle for no good reason. That PEPR is heavy! So, I'd like to replace it with two "normal" scope mounts, likely Zee rings, but I'm curious what ring height I should be using to get the scope as close as possible to the rail. The reason I want the scope as low as possible is that I find I don't have a good cheek weld on the rifle, the stock is a little too low. Lower rings will save me from buying a riser for my CTR stock.

Thoughts?

I had high rings on one and it seemed fine for me. I was also running a 1-4x24. Maybe you'll have to experiment. Medium height sounds like it might solve your problem.

I have the NEA stock adaptor with a CTR stock. I can't really answer for the BUIS since I took them off as soon as I got the rifle. If you're running a scope and have no QD rings then there's no point in having them on. If I recall correctly, the cheek weld with the BUIS was pretty good.

I just did a little tinkering and comparing to some Sightron scopes I have mounted in "High" Signature Zee rings and it looks like they would bring the scope down a bit with enough clearance but there is still room to spare so I'm wondering if medium rings would work.

When I was waiting for my DMS style optics setup for my XCR I had a Bushnell Elite 1040 mounted on my rifle with a set of Leupold Medium Rings. It had plenty of room to the rail. I am only using this scope as an example because the 1040's Ocular lens measures at 39mm and the Objective lens at 48mm. You CMR has an Ocular lens of 39.6mm and Objective lens of 30mm. So even with the your flip caps if your measurement is anything less than 48mm which you state it is you will be good to go with Medium rings.
