XCR Pistol Barrels?

Is there a source for custom length barrels for the XCR pistol? I would love one, but the 7.5" barrel is pretty useless overall for me. If I could get a 10"-11" barrel for it that would make the gun much more attractive for my uses. Calibre would be 7.62x39 if that matters.

And, yes, I searched this forum and found nothing regarding custom XCR barrels.

There was a guy here who made one or two. His username was blueskies or blue stratus or something. He used the stock barrel extension I believe.

From what I can tell, the XCR is only imported as a non-restricted rifle with an 18.6" barrel or as the micro pistol with the 7.5" barrel. Anything else is a custom job. If I am wrong, someone please point me towards an 11" barreled rifle.

Damn, that complicates the situation somewhat. I guess I could sacrifice the existing barrel and do it that way.

You mean, aside from creating a prohibited device by chopping the barrel to less than 18", right?

OK unless I'm missing something, which wouldn't be the first time, your using a 7.62x39 rifle conversion KIT not a non-restricted rifle. Your fitting the shortened barrel to a gun that is already restricted. If I understand things correctly as long as you inform the CFC of the barrel lengh change your good to go. Again as I understand things the issue would be if you then installed the barrel in one of the rifles. If I've got this wrong I'll happily stand corrected plus my XCR does everything I need it to do with it's "long" barrel so I won't be looking for a shorter one. The mew XCR-M though that's a whole other deal....

Cutting an existing barrel shorter than 18" (actually 457 mm) makes it prohibited. A new barrel manufactured to a shorter length is legal. Stupid and illogical? Very, but that is the basis of most of our firearms laws.

“prohibited firearm” means

(a) a handgun that

(i) has a barrel equal to or less than 105 mm in length, or
(ii) is designed or adapted to discharge a 25 or 32 calibre cartridge,
but does not include any such handgun that is prescribed, where the handgun is for use in international sporting competitions governed by the rules of the International Shooting Union,

(b) a firearm that is adapted from a rifle or shotgun, whether by sawing, cutting or any other alteration, and that, as so adapted,

(i) is less than 660 mm in length, or
(ii) is 660 mm or greater in length and has a barrel less than 457 mm in length,

(c) an automatic firearm, whether or not it has been altered to discharge only one projectile with one pressure of the trigger, or

(d) any firearm that is prescribed to be a prohibited firearm;

As for the pistol barrels, I think I will save my pennies and buy the pistol as is and see how bad the 7.5" barrel is before condemning it completely. If I love the gun, but hate the shorty barrel I will look at changing it at that point.

There is nothing wrong with the 7.5" barrel, granted it is no sniper rifle when it comes to accuracy, however I have no problems with shredding pie plates at 50-75 metres with Czech Surplus, but the noise and concussion sure is not winning me friends at the range ;)

Oh by the way when you convert your non restricted XCR to restricted XCR by means of changing uppers or barrel's you must notify the CFC about change in status .No you don't have 30 days to notify the CFC about the change it must be done ASAP . You cannot move the rifle in question till you recieve the new FRT . If by chance you decided to try out your new toy and were unfortunate to get caught with the firearm with out the new FRT it will be deemed a prohibited firearm and siezed and say good bye to the rest of your firearms . Oh if you think this is only applies to changing the staus to restricted it doesn't it applys to changing from restricted to non restricted as well.
 
What about a XCR pistol based on the mini, those come with a longer barrel, ship it without the stock and call it a pistol. Could that work?

I am not sure, I am still pretty uninformed about the details of the XCR line and who sells them in Canada. Looking at Wolverine's site, they only list the rifle with 18.6" barrel and the micro pistol. In the thread on the pistol they make it very clear that there will be no uppers sold separately nor screwing around with legal technicalities to avoid the pistols all being declared rifles or the rifles all re-classified arbitrarily.

Who else sells the XCR? Any details on the mini? What I really want is a short barrelled rifle, around 10.5" in 7.62x39. If a mini gets me there that is good for me.
