Well, just pulled the trigger and bought a XCR .223 at wolverine. It's on backorder, but should be here in 3 weeks.
A Couple quick questions.
1) What is the difference between the Regular XCR, L, M and Micro?
2) How do I change the stock to a magpul ctr?
3) I also bought the 7.62 x 39 conversion, how easy is it to change the gun and is surplus 7.62 ok in the gun?
4) Any problems I should be looking out for?
5) Is there a warranty depot in Canada or do I have to send it back to the states if I have any problems?
1 - XCR-L comes factory in .223/556, 6.8, and 7.62x39 and is non-restricted in factory config. M comes in .308 win and is non-restricted in factory config. Micro comes factory in .223/556, 6.8, and 7.62x39 and is restricted and registered as a pistol (aka never can be non-restricted).
3 - Personally I wouldn't shoot surplus through it and leave that to the SKS, but that's just me. It runs fine on surplus if that's your thing, just make sure to clean accordingly and if you ever go to re-sell make sure to advertise it's shot surplus.
4 - Recoil buffer. Some run for thousands of rounds and some break after a few hundred. Needless to say it's a crappy part to go down and have your rifle out of commission due to a small piece of plastic. Buy 10 spares, I'm not kidding, buy lots of spare recoil buffers.
Also if you're going to run the FAST stock buy extra power springs for the locking mechanism. That's the weakest point of the stock and tends to wear down allowing the stock to fold on it's own. Kind of makes you wonder why they didn't build a mechanical lock into the stock. Of course YMMV, and I believe there have been 3-4 different production runs of the FAST with different spring tensions in them (first being the weakest) so depending on the production run people may have a great stock or a piece of spaghetti. At any rate get extra power springs if you're going to run the FAST, at least as a spare part.
Rest seem to have been answered.
As for the EZed ACR stock adapter they were a limited run and a huge pain in the mans butt, so he didn't do any further runs and they're unavailable. Those who have them regularly charge $200 or more and that's without the ACR stock, just for the adapter. Kind of hoping the idea will catch on and be made again or taken up by a larger company that could do a large production run. A few did make it into Canada if you want to post a EE WTB ad, just be ready to cough up the asking price of the seller, which in this case is likely to be $200 or more.
