Since I see you will be able to import them soon, I'll give my report to you which I posted elsewhere. I do live in the US.

I bit the bullet and bought a Rob arms XCR. I take it to the range tomorrow. Manual states it takes 300 rounds to break in. Anybody who loves FALS will feel at home with the XCR. The charging handle is FAL like, so is the adjustable gas system. Fit and finish is very impressive. Ergonomics-------the best I have ever experienced. It is truly a mix of three guns ----the FAL, AK-47 , and AR-15. I got the folding stock model and had to "register" it as a pistol due to state laws. It is 27 inches folded. The folding stock is rock solid and it is very balanced. It has Yankee Hill folding sites that will allow cowitnessing to an Eotech.

Break down takes 30 seconds. I added a forward vertical forearm grip. At first site, it resembles an AR or smallish FAL. I can't really explain it, but this gun just feels right for me. Everything is where it should be ---you can charge the handle. change a mag, release the bolt, click the saftey without ever taking the gun off its target or your finger off the trigger. I am right handed.

Nice gun. I'll give a range report tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Back from the range. I use an indoor range ---------its winter here. The range is 25 meters deep. I used Guatamalen surplus ammo 55 grain. I cleaned the barrel before use and cleaned the barrel every 10 rounds for break in. I've read the posting on breaking in barrels. I don't know if it works but I did do it. I shot 80 rounds. It took me 20 rounds to site in the Yankee Hill folding iron sites that Rob arms sells as a option for the XCR. I sighted them at 25 meters. While standing using no support, I got 2-3 inch groups at 25 meters consistently. I had no failures. I used several mags--c products with magpul non tilt followers and one expensive H&K uber mag. No issues. During the break in , told to use a wide open gas setting. The gun has a polymer buffer for the bolt. The XCR has very little kick and follow up is fast. It comes with a Brake and it seems to work.

I use electronic muffs for hearing protection and the XCR seem to sound normal to me. But the shooters in the other lanes said this gun was very loud. The trigger is crisp and is a two stage type. The first stage is short distance, very short and then a quick crisp snap/bang.

I shot one 10 round burst fast as I could pull the trigger. Easy to keep in control. Very, very balanced gun. Everybody----I mean Everybody at the range wanted to see it , touch , and had a zillion questions. One person though it was an FNC. The attached gun shop will look into being a dealer-----they like it but want to see about dealer pricing and mark up . I paid MSRP at another shop. Once I put the order in , they recieved the gun in 10 days but waited another 20 days for the sites. The xcr comes with one mag ,ergo rail covers, plastic hard shell case and of course the cable gun lock and keys.

When I finished , I folded down the sights and found that the front sight was very loose, nearly ready to fall off the picatinny rail. Note to myself: locktite Yankee Hill site threads. I m sure my accuracy will increase with tight sights and shooting with the rifle supported on a bench. I did not shoot the rifle with the stock folded because i was in an indoor range and they might frown on the Rambo manuever. I'll wait until I'm outside on private property and then dump a full mag with the stock folded in pistol mode. I cleaned it up afterwards and and studied its massive three lobe bolt that looks similar to an AK bolt but with an extra lobe for better lock up. The safety, mag release, bolt release and charging handle all worked superbly.

So far , I'm really please with it and plan to place an Eotech 512 and co witness with the irons sights. I have AK's and one FAL.----I'm into uber realiable guns or what I think will be the most reliable. In 5.56 I own a mini 14,Ar-180-b, and now a XCR. The mini is limited when its gets hot and has flyers. The AR-180 had problems which Aramlite fixed free of charge with their life time warranty. The 180 -b is now reliable and with its very light weight and low recoil---a favorite but a little short of a true battle rifle. That s why I bought an XCR----simple ingenious design, heavy duty but without the weight. I really like it.

As far as a 2nd. caliber, I 'd go for the 7.62X39 conversion or just skip it and use my AK. REM 6.8 is the third conversion for the XCR but 6.8 is just too costly and not available widely yet.

Mini-14 $800.00 (and I get 2" groups all day long)
XCR $2,200.00

:D

I couldnt resist.

Now I'm thinking about an XCR.

I too keep teetering between the "Yeach gonna get it!" and the "What am I thinking??" crowd.

If we were allowed even 10 rounds I'd be more inclined to get it - but with our restricted 5rnd mags I will stick with my 10.5" AR for now :)

I will wait for the .308bull-pup if it ever comes :p (that'll be an instant VISA purchase).

Thanks leek for the report. I needed some personal XCR range report, but here in CGN, not in U.S. site. You mentioned that quality of fit and finish is impressive. In comparison, how would you rate the quality, against other rifles?

My XCR is US code and has a 16 inch barrel. Fit and Finish is subjective but let me compare it to my other guns. The fit and finish is superior to my Ar 180-b . The XCR is a metal gun yet it weighs only 7 pounds. It is built of steel and aluminium. It has some stainlees steel. The gun is tight----very little wobbel between upper and lower. The rails on the upper are machined in --not added. Where there are welds, the beads are neat---almost artful. The gas spring looks very AK like. It is truly a blend of an AK, FN FAL, and AR-15. The machining of parts are H&K quality. The finish is smooth and consistent color. The pistol grip and ergo rail covers are the only plastic used . The mag well is smooth and it is easy to load or drop free AR mags in the well. The xcr is rather curvy, not angular like an AK or AR -180 -b. My XCR will not be a safe queen it will be used in three gun competitions so I will out it through some battle like exercises. I'll report how it holds up. Hope this helps.

Hey leek does the charging handle reciprocate with carrier or is it static when firing?

The charging handle is static when firing. The charging handle is exactly like a FN FAL. I do know that FALs aren't allowed in Canada. The bolt release is in front of the trigger near the mag well and is ambidextrous. The mag realease is just like an AR-15/ M 16. The bolt and mag realease can be reached without moving your trigger hand. The bolt and be charged with the gun against your shoulder. The safety is AR-15/m16 like. The stock has foam covering the top where your cheek weld is at-------------your cheek is against the foam and not cold metal.

You can get have FN FAL if you are grandfathered for that class of firearm and someone is willing to sell one but for everyone else your SOL.

Leek, how do you find the upper/lower locking mechanism? From looking at the pictures, it doesnt seem like the lock is very strong.

Oh, and the line starts behind me :p

The upper /lower locking mechanism is actually the tang attached to the gas tube/bolt main spring. It locks up tight. When the gun is fired, the spring becomes more compressed which locks the sections even tighter. Its similar to how the AK bolt spring holds in the top dust cover.
