Sorry for the provacative title but I thought more than a few here would find this interesting.

I love the AR rifle and have been the owner of a Colt H-Bar and currently a Stagarms M-4.

That being said I bought an XCR with both .223 and 7.62 x 39 barrels and have nothing but good to say about it. Super fast on the double taps and 100% reliable.

Being a bullet caster and reloader, one of the reasons I bought the gun was that I suspected it would work well with cast bullets in 7.62 x 39. Low and behold it works great. Below are my results. Bullets are from the Lee 160gr mold, unsized and tumble lubed with gas checks. About one third linotype to wheelweights with 20 grains of 4198. I put 50 rounds through the rifle and had no signs of leading or malfuntions. Just an unmagnified dot for sights.

Why can't an AR do this?

Didn't expect to get a bite that fast;-)

An AR, if you can find one in 7.62x39, may well be capable of this but I expect it would have problems with functioning and leading. The adjustible gas system on the XCR gives it much more flexibility with lower pressure loads.

If I could get my AR to do this in .223 I would have never considered an XCR.

Those groups are as loose as a hot dog being thrown down a hallway. Most of us brag with a dime not a damn tooney. I guess you couldn't find a bigger coin. Lol. Kidding good job. Try moly coating the bullets.

Considering all the negative comments I heard about the XCR and that calibre, the results are quite good. Don't lose heart--one day you'll hit that Toonie! ;)

There are piston type AR's.
With that being said, what is funny is I don't own an AR but I do own a XCR 223 and I love it. This thread makes me want to buy a conversion kit for it.

Here's mine in 6.8 SPC. I know AR's can do the accuracy... but I can use my XCR for hunting. It's why I sold my AR....

As well, I'm more than happy with the accuracy of 1.5 at 100 with a 5 shot group, not just 3. Just as good as my AR was. I hadn't done any tricking out, but I haven't on my XCR either.

So you know, my buddy hung the target upside down, as I was sighting for 2 inches high, so you have to imagine it the other way up....

And again, this was done outside, on the open Tundra. No registered range here!!! :)

I swore up and down that I would never get a 7.62X39 conversion kit for my XCR-L but the more I see how they perform the more I'm thinking of getting one.

Thanks for the post...
