I just wanted to know if anybody sells a short .223 barrel for the xcr. I have been looking all over for one with no success. If anybody has any info it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Not legal to do so. Talk to Wolverine about a custom order for the barrel or carbine you are wanting. Alex Robinson said they would accommodate custom orders for us Canadians.

As per my post above.

I had free moment this afternoon and decided to see what the Canadians were up to. By the way, we greatly appreciate your business and open mindedness.

We can do any stock you want. The new XCR Fast stock is what we consider the best. But we can do the fixed tubes stocks, make AR-15 stock adapters, etc. We could also make a longer FAST stocks. Just tell Wolverine what you want and we'll build it.

We can look at .338 but I'm not sure of the .458 Socom. It may just be too fat.

As for my being rude, I am extremely rude online because of the extreme lack of intelligence on many of the forums (I'm not referring to this forum).

Frankly, I really don't care what anyone thinks of us our company. If we cared, we'd be making AR-15 clones like everyone else.

Our goal is to make the best, most innovative guns for you all. Keep buying our stuff and we'll keep making more and more caliber, stock, and other options.

Again we greatly appreciate our Canadian customers.

Sincerely,

Alex J. Robinson

Not to refute what's been said here reference the ability of Wolverine to "Special Order" barrels and the like from RobArm, but I was under the definite impression Wolverine WILL NOT entertain any requests to import the shorter barrels in order to not jeopardize the non-restricted status of the XCR. I contacted Wolverine on this topic, and was told as much (also mention the possibility of the lighter profile barrel becoming available this year).

I know people will say the other rifles, like the ACR, have non-res/res barrels cohabitate, but i'm just repeating what I've heard. Things might have changed in the past couple of months... I don't know.

Well that was their position but that was shot to #### when they started importing the restricted pistol version. No need to worry about that now.

I not sure about that... the barrels are not interchangeable, nor are the receivers. Ultimately, the existence of the XCR pistol doesn't effect the status of the XCR rifle. They are two separate entities.

I asked Wolverine about the rifle barrels long after they started importing the pistols. I would love to be mistaken, but i'm 99% sure Wolverine will not import shorter XCR rifle barrels.

Strange considering the Swiss Arms Black and Green specials and the M1A from Springfield Armory are no different. The AR15 is only restricted based on name in the legislation. It should be classified as non-restricted if the barrel length is over 18.5" but the libs squashed that.

The firearm law is pretty clear on restricted firearms.

Barrel length requirement applies to only semi-autos, while other actions types are only subject to OAL requirement.

Definition of a Restricted Firearm
According to the Criminal Code, a restricted firearm is:

•a handgun that is not a prohibited firearm;
•a semi-automatic, centre-fire rifle or shotgun with a barrel length less than 470 mm (18.5 inches) that is not prohibited;
•a rifle or shotgun that can fire when its overall length is reduced by folding, telescoping or some other means to less than 660 mm (26 inches)
;
•any firearm prescribed as restricted (including some long guns).

Hbean, Wolverine Supplies is supposedly not importing the restricted XCRs (i.e. shorter barrels) as they are afraid the non-restricted XCRs will end up in the "any firearm prescribed as restricted (including some long guns)." category. Shouldn't be a legitimate fear but I don't trust the RCMP to play nice.

Mr. Hipwell (Mr. Wolverine) probably knows more about how to get firearms classified and imported than anyone else in Canada, I can appreciate and understand his reasoning behind only bring in 18.6" model.

You have to understand that SA rifles and carbines upper are all serialized, so the classification stays with the upper so you swap out the upper all you want, as with the XCR once you swap out the barrel you have number of days to report the change to CFO, and once you change it there is no going back.

Classification doesn't work that way. Unless the barrel on a semi-auto center-fire rifle, that is not named as a restricted or prohibited firearm and does not meet the Hasselwander (sp?) criteria as being readily and easily convertible to fully automatic, is shorter than 18.5", it will fall within the non-restricted category.

The RCMP cannot add a new gun to the list of firearms prescribed as restricted, only an OIC can do that. The RCMP can determine whether a firearm is a variant of a firearm prescribed as restricted or prohibited, or determine if a firearm meets the definition of a restricted or prohibited firearm, but not more than that.

I totally agree with you. And to be clear, i've have wanted a shorter XCR barrel for more than a year. But here we are, without any shorter barrels available through the official Canadian Supplier.

So if you are correct, and the entire worry and fear about restricted classification is wrong, where are the shorter XCR barrels?

Just wondering, but how would the RCMP make all XCR's Restricted if short barrels were available?

Also, there's negligible demand for them as the only real advantage that the XCR has over the AR-15 is its non-restricted classification.

You're right, but Wolverine still does not import shorter barrels. I'm not trying to defend Wolverine's decisions or thought process, just trying to guess why the short barrels are not imported.

Also, saying that non-res status is the "only" thing the XCR has over the AR-15 is a bit flippant. Same could be said for the Ar-180.
