XCR/SL8 Help Needed.

Do you want to attach much to the front end of the rifle? The only attachment I needed was a short rail for a bipod, so I went for the keymod to keep weight down. If you want the versatility of continuous rail then the picatinny version may be your gun, but you are going to sacrifice some weight for it.

XCR uses standard AR mags and you can run 10 rounds in the LAR15 mags, big bonus over the SL8 if you want to use it for coyotes.

Sl8-4/5 in Canada uses double stacks

I just bought an sl8 a couple months ago. The only thing I don't like about it is parts availability and costs in canada. For the price I paid in mods and parts, I think I would have gone with an acr. Other than that I love my sl8.

Any comments on keymod on XCR?
Also, any advantage in long rail or short rail on SL8?

i had the long rail version delivered and hated it and sent it back.
i have the short railed version,my choice

Thanks, I would mount a bipod at most on the fore end.

the guys says he wants 1 moa.
Only the sl8 will be close to deliver, maybe an acr with a really really good krieger NR barrel from herron.
ACR will run 10 round AR pistol mags and 15 round beowulf mags.
XCR is not even in this race.

I'm curious where the XCR attained this reputation as an inaccurate rifle. It's no tack driver, and if AR's were given NR status I'd drop it right away but it certainly hasn't shown me any reason to doubt it's ability, maybe I've just gotten lucky with a good performer. I'm by no means what I'd consider a skilled shooter, but my experiences differ greatly than those which I'm reading on this board.

I hear ya. Summary is the stock SL-8 wins by a nose hair but really improves over the XCR with $6000 worth of work and handloads.
Don't flame me, just the messenger!

Not far off. If one were to try and make an accurate G36 clone you would be at 6k. My set up would get you close to 5k. I run an SL8 with an Ar15 magwell, a Hera Arms lower, ACR buttstock, and a 4x20x44 Vortex. The first 3 things I list do nothing to improve accuracy. Out of the box it will shoot about 1.5 MOA with match ammo and 1MOA with handloads.

SL8 is cheaper than the XCR or at least it was when I bought mine and if wolverine has stock again

I would take the SL8 over the XCR but I am biased after having a very poor and frustrating experience with the XCR.

If you do decide on the SL8 I would suggest modifying G36 Pmags to work in the gun rather than the cheaper AR conversions as it is a far superior system IMO. The G36 mag is arguably the best system to date from any manufacturer.

I would stay away from the G36 mags. Reason being you will have a harder time shooting prone or off a bench. I use 5/7 Beowulf (15rd 223) and recommend LAR15's. If you prefer the better HK magwell and mags then stick to the 5rd. Overall that 30rd mag height will be bad for low positioning.

If you're wanting sub moa, the XCR probably cant deliver. But if you're goal is shooting coyotes then thats not a necessity. My XCR(with all the bolts properly torqued) has no problem shooting 5" groups at 300 yards (4x scope). I really like the ergos of it as well. Cant speak to the SL8 though. If you really want make tiny holes in paper, buy a bolt action.
