Just received a used Xcr, the upper and lower seems to have a noticeable amount of play, this normal? Any place to shim?

Bought used off EE, enough play to get my ocd up. I looked on the Xcr forums I guess tape is the answer. Disappointed at this point but if it shoots good it may not matter anyway.

I don't think I have any warranty, there's a clear gap I can see and move. I guessing 10 thou

I'd like to use it as a coyote rig, my biggest concern is how it affect accuracy.

I used use black electrical tape (2 layers for thickness) cut nice and small, took up the slack perfectly. Now I have no movement that I can tell (even if trying to force it) and you can not tell the tape is in there when the upper and lower are together.
If hinged open you can see it, but still not noticeable unless you are looking for it since it is black and I cut them the perfect size.

My rear spring assembly at the rear is tight. I have to actually squeeze the two together now because of the added pressure from the tape so be able to lock the upper to the lover without forcing/rubbing the spring assembly part.

Between that and the FAST stock wobble i was was pretty unhappy with a $2000+ gun.
Now that the upper to lower wobble is gone with tape, and I found out about the adjustment screw for the folding Hinge for the fast stock the gun feels way more solid. (I put some Teflon tape on the folding adjustment screw so it would stop loosening itself off after every couple mags).

Now to only solve the play in the length of pull adjustable part of the FAST stock. I see the new version has a set screw to take the play out, but I hear it is $400US for it...
Curious about adding my own set screw, or tighter fitting plastic white sliders that are inside the FAST stock (have to take the FAST stock apart to see the white sliders)

I tookk a small piece of duct tape and put in between the two, no more play. I guess duct can fix everything even a $2000 gun.

place an o ring around the piece that protrudes from the upper that the front take down pin goes into. Sold mine so cant upload pics. Or google AR-15 0-ring upper lower fix. Experiment with different sizes and thickness until you get one that takes up the slack but still allows the take down latch to close no problem.

Are you referring to the forward assist? Pushing in and forward on the charging handle. Holding the gun with a magwell grip makes you want to lay your thumb forward and over the charging handle. Don't do this.
Somewhat Yes. It should stay forward though. Mine stays forward and isnt touched unless it's needed. I think that is written in the manual.

I think that thread is more play in the rear where they lock up, not the front where the hindge is.

It was both. That thread was started by me. When you were holding the rifle and tilted side to side you could see movement and feel a "clunk" as you moved it back and forth. Wolverine ended up replacing the lower and now it is a nice crisp fit with no wiggle now. Haven't had a chance to shoot it since getting it back but it feels worlds better now than it was.

shhhiieet I am noticing that wobble and clank sound too. Hmmm do you know if the wobble could have been fixed with some rubber O rings?

No I don't think so, at least not that bad. I took a piece of tape in between the two upper and lower no more wobble.
