XD-40 Range report

I've shot a good few thousand rounds through my XD40 with not problems and it is wonderfull to shoot. The only down side is the finish which is lacking.

I got my xd40 on Wed and took the black badge on Sat. Never shot the gun before. Approx 500 rounds no failures, passed the course no probs. Since then it eats whatever reloads I have fed it and keeps ticking. Very reliable

I have fired a couple of thousand rounds out of my XD-40, no problems yet, put the oil to the slide though, if you fire it dry you could get premature wear on the rails, I even heard of them melting, if that is possible. All in all a great gun, even if it is put together in Croatia!!!!!

If it helps, for those of you looking for the differences between an XD 40 and 45ACP, they are there.

I sold my XD 40 b/c I needed cash for an M-1 Carbine at the time. I regret that decision now as I sold it to a friend who won't part with it and the trigger has gotten better with every pull.

However, my XD 45ACP will never leave my collection. I can't tell you how much nicer the pistol is in my hands versus the 40. It's a little bigger in the grip area, but not by much, and it also holds one more round than the 40 (13+1 rather than 12+1). I am extremely happy with the purchase, and I am considering buying an XD 45ACP compact to keep it company. :dancingbanana:

ugh, screw SA. They couldn't have made the compact just a little longer so it would pass our asinine import laws. The fullsize looks like garbage, it ruins the lines of the pistol.

I was checking out a Springfield XD but was talked out of it due to an supposed weakness in the palm safety. I was told they are all plastic and large number of the first ones out had been breaking, any truth to this?

Total load of crap. My XD is 2 years old with lots of rounds gone thru it. NOT A SINGLE MALFUNCTION. It's paid its dues... including being my sidearm on 3 TR courses (fighting pistol included!).

I have been considering getting an XD in 40 or 45 for some time now. Between the price and what I've read here I think I'm going to pick one up.

Buy them both. I recently got an XD-45. It's feels, handles and shoots as good as the 40! I am sure you won't be disappointed!!!

Here are some pics to compare the two models (no the guns aren't dirty.. sparkly stuff in the digital pics  )

The .45 is only slightly thicker and overall circumference of the grip is only ~3/8" more than the .40. The slide is about 3/16 wider and 1/4" longer. The frame of the pistol where the slide travels is only 1/2" longer than the .40 frame. The .45 frame also has two notches for locking accessories on the rail whereas the .40 only has one.

I truly do find that both pistols fit / feel great and shoot extremely well. My .45 has a lot less rounds thru it right now than my .40 but I'm sure I will be just as happy with it. My .40 has served me faithfully and I highly recommend either model.

Then it would not be a compact... and while your at it....screw all the other manufacturers who produce compacts... :p

Another great review for the XD40. Mine has 2 years of abuse on it now. Shoots great. I bet im close to 3000 rounds without a problem. I love mine to death.

I like my XD 9...

Like my vaquero more;)

2 weeks ago I was killing time in an airport bookstore.

A gun mag had a very detailed artical on tips to maintain your XD, lots of photos.
Like clean here, (bolt face I think it is called)
Oil there, (pivit point for the grips saftey).
You must lube the slide also, so it said. A friend mentioned a thick lube made for slides. Must stay on longer that regular thin gun oil.

I should have bought the mag. Just read it 2x.

Maybe some body has it and could add more.

Did you see the artical on the 17000 round torture test of the XD??
Very good reports.

At least the other manufacturers have a frame that goes the length of the slide.
shorter dustcovers look fine on metals, ugly on polymer. just looks odd, and not as strong, for some reason to me.

This was Guns & Ammo. Showed the detailed stripping and cleaning of both the XD and the firearm it would like to be... the Glock! :D
(sorry, couldn't resist :p )

You should be glad manufacturers like SA make a tactical model so that we CAN get one here in Kanuckistan. I may be mistaken (and I apologize if I am) but it doesn't sound like you were shooting handguns before the OIC / 12(6) crap. If you were then I think you would be more appreciative of ALL handgun manufacturers that produce a model eligible for import to Canada. Any new true compacts by design will not be allowed into Canada thus your opinion (and you are entitled to it) about "real" compacts is useless because MOST compacts are 4" models = prohib here.
