XD40 for IPSC

Question for the IPSC crowd:
What is the opinion, good and bad, of using the SA XD40 for IPSC competition? Would it be better for Production?
TS

Back to opinions on IPSC..

It's a good gun for shooting production. I had a few problems with stovepipes when I tried to get it down to 125-130 PF.. the lowest I could get mine was 142 and still be reliable. The addition of F.O. makes a big difference in the sight picture..

as for standard.. while it can compete, I found the it was a major difference (improvement) going from the XD to the Tanfoglio. The shorter and lighter trigger pull was a major factor in that.

LOL Goes to show how behind I am...

When I owned an XD40 it wasn't allowed in Production for IPSC. I recall there being a lot of angry XD owners at the time.

The way it was explained to me (and please correct me if this is not true) is that the XD (and M&P) are partially cocked by racking the slide but when the trigger is pulled it completes the cocking of the firing pin and releases it as well. Thus making it a DA.

That is what I gathered from the articles I read and what I was told by the nice man behind the counter of my local fun store, oops I mean gun store.

I choose the M&P 9mm because of availibility in my area, but I have read good things about the XD and would see no problems as far as reliability is concerned using it in production, after that is just down to personal preference.

The XD is fully cocked by racking the slide.
The Glock and M&P are partially cocked. The pulling of the trigger finish the cocking.
This is the reasoning for M&P and Glock making SSP in IDPA and the XD being ESP.

There is a very good argument that they should all be SSP. The Technical workings aside, they all have long, consistent, heavier trigger pulls. And really from a users perspective they all function the same way. The XD definitely fits the spirit of the rules for SSP.

Or maybe a new division. DA for me means a restrike capability. None of these has that ability IIRC.

Thanks for the clarification. I thought the XD was included in that group

In case you want to tune your XD, just use any 1911 spring. They are a drop in fit. 5" 1911 fits a full size XD.

Just remember the rules of production class if you are thinking of changing the spring..
