For those who have had the opportunity to shoot both I'd like to hear your opinions on which one you prefer and why? 9mm or .40 I understand the Xdm in .45acp is on its way! :stirthepot2:

I prefer the XD due to the grip angle but everyone is different. Hold and fire both, don't rely on us keyboard warriors ;)

Springfield has a oddball warranty policy of sending everything back to the factory, that was the deal stopper for me.

They are both good pistols, Glock has the advantage of years of production to fix the many issues they have had. Frankly I find any trigger based safety next to useless and the Glock’s trigger is uncomfortable for my finger. I own a G26 currently, but would sell it in a heartbeat for a SW M&Pc in 9mm.
I’m on the fence for the grip safety rather than 1911style safety that SW offers for their M&P. Grip safety are dependent on a proper grip.
I would have to give Glock the edge for their parts and service availability. I talked to Springfield at SHOT and their guy understood that their repair policies cause issues for Canadians but there was no desire to change it in the near future.
The big advantage that the XD brings is mag capacity and that advantage is neutered up here.

For looks my preference is:

M&P
XDM
Glock

I've got an XDm in 40, main reason for picking it over the Glock is I'm not a Glock fan. Yes they are bullet proof reliable, made by the millions (reason #1 for not liking), used in every gangster movie (reason #2), our range has about 500 of them (reason #3), they look too, I don't know, plain (reason #4).

I've got a friend with a new Glock 40, very nice shooter.

Our resident pistol expert has fired both and feels he gets more accuracy out of the XDm.

In all honesty it comes down to preference, both are excellent and very similar. I went with the XDm in part because it's rare, got one of the first shipment of 20 Sask GW brought into the country. Everyone at the range wants to try when they see it, while my buddies new Glock sits there with 10 other's on the table.

Springfield Armory doesn't need to have 20 years of reliable service. The real maker's of the XD or XDM,(HS produkt of the Karlovac factory in Croatia has been the manufacture for give or take 20+ years now)Springfield Armory just markets it under their name for the North American Market. This design has proven it self extremely reliable for quite some time in Europe,Most North Americans just are not aware of this.

sounds a lot like the 1911 platform too, no? certainly made by the millions, used in a bunch of movies, common at all ranges, look simple by now, tend to get pimped out in Mexico, etc...

One of our guys at our IDPA club bought the XD in 9MM. Frankly I was impressed. Gun, in my opinion has better ergonomics than the Glock (well to be fair so does a brick). I found it to handle recoil well and was easy to shoot quickly and accurately. It depends on what you intend to do with the gun. The Glock and M&P (you didn't mention the M&P I know) can be shot in both SSP and ESP Divisions playing IDPA while the XD is considered a single action pistol and shoots in ESP. The gun holds its own in that division against the M&P/Glock and 1911 guns.

Try them both and pick the one you like the most.

Take Care
