ok not sure this right forum but im looking at buying a Dillon 650 from dillon .Anyone every bought from them an what would the custom want in taxes and duties ???

With the CAD dollar against USD, buying direct from Dillon sounds like a good idea. For customs duty, you pay GST & PST for the declared value of the item. Just remember........ NEVER...... EEEEEEVER have them ship the press via FEDEX or UPS.... they will charge you arm and leg for the brokerage fee .:mad::mad: Ask dILLON to send the press USPS...

Check with Chad at eguns dot com ,bought my xl650 and accessories from him,he ships by usps if you ask him. Also fast delivery.best price around

go direct with to Dillon, and pay the GST AND PST ONLY,and of course shipping. like NOGNOG just mentioned, ship via USPS is the way to go.

I asked Dillon to ship USPS.
Here is a copy of the reply I recieved:
Prices are still a lot better than Canadian dealers are charging. Anybody know how much Fedex would charge for brokerage??

Hello Randy:

Thanks for the message. Here is the order with the case gage and with shipping by mail. We strongly recommend against mail service for a high value order like this one because if it were to get lost you would have no recourse.

Best regards,

Steve Chavez

About three months ago ordered $1100.00 from Dillon direct asked them to shup USPS. two days later get a call where I want it dropped off in town it was sent UPS over night never got a bill for GST, Duty or any other charges.
Near as I can figure it was all in the price when they quoted it to me or they covered the cost and I don't think they did that.

I think Fedex charges a left arm and UPS charges the right arm. So if you use one stick with it or you will be really screwed. :p

Best thing to do, especially if you live close to the border is to get it shipped to a drop on the south side of the border where you can pick it up and bring it through customs yourself. Shipping shouldn't be that bad then ($195 is way too much) and you can make a day out of it shopping across line too.

I'm not sure why Dillon can't ship it USPS insured. If $1300 is too much to insure on one order you could get it shipped in parts so it is all covered.

I would maybe rethink the above items.

I have the D-Terminator scale and it is OK but if I was to do it again I would get the RCBS Charge Master Combo that includes a digital scale and a dispenser (great for working up loads). I paid $250. from another supplier for it. So only about $110 more.

Skip the dial callipers. Get a nice digital unit at Canadian Tire for about the same price (or wait for it to go on sale again). Easier to read and use.

Are you really going to trim that much 30-06 cases to require that trimmer? Buy a RCBS trim Pro and get the combo trimmer, chamfer and deburr tool.

And you don't need the low powder sensor unless you are blind AND your powder check system battery dies! And it is just something to get in the way when you are adding more powder to the measure.

That's my 4.38 cents CANADIAN! :D

Let us know what you do.

Do not be surprised if you don't get a bill a few months down the road from UPS...for brokerage fees....

When I bought my 550 from Dillon the UPS brokerage fee was $40..

I don't get it...

You're spending hundreds on your press and you get all irate about paying the incidental fees required to get your 50lb package to your door.

Drive to Arizona and pick it up yourself and see what that'll cost ya:D

It is not just a "brokerage" fee. The shipping costs go way up just getting over the border too. What exactly does UPS do for the "$40"? Nothing really. It is just their way of putting their own tax on it.

If you get a press (or whatever) from Dillon the maximum they will charge for shipping is $19.99 within the lower 48 states. Why should you pay $194.56 if you can go across the border and pick it up yourself?

Which is $35 more than Canada Post charges, which is a good pound of rifle powder, or a thousand primers.

You cheap bastard...;)

'and where the hell are you buying your powder and primers...???
You're getting ripped off man...:D

sure when they start selling them at a good price:rolleyes:

Ok statements like this bother me for two reasons. the first one being is that when most of the dealers bought their stock the dollar was sitting a lot lower. in addition they did all of the paper work necessary to get their product into the country.

The other reason why this bothers me is that people will shop south of the border to save a few bucks but then will be complaining when the dealer doesn't provide sponsorship for their match, doesn't have that part they need right now in stock or just go out of business requring them to go to who knows where to get what they need.

Whenver possable support your local dealer!!!!

You forgot to add spare parts, replacement parts and individual advice....

I have parts on hand and have shipped things out no questions asked to people that were not even my customers, At my own expense! Dillon doesn't cover the shipping costs... I've helped with warranty work and even arranged upgrades (550A -> 550B, Old 650 to new 650) for people when they've had problems... How about out of warranty 1050 parts... Had a couple folks with problems just outside a year.... I don't think it's exactly fair since I know that in Canada we only really shoot for 6-9 months a year....

Could people have done this themselves? Possibly they could have called Dillon but they may have had to jump through hoops... The parts would have taken as long a 2 months to arrive and then they may have had to pay taxes on them...

I don't know how many people send me emails for quotes where they are missing pieces or have things on there that I know they can get elsewhere at half the price... I tell them becuase I don't see why anybody needs an arkobin at 8 bucks when CT sells a 3 pack of the same thing with a different name for 7....

I treat people the way I want to be treated.....
